The commanding officer of the Navy warship that spilled thousands of gallons of fuel into a Virginia river earlier this month has been removed from her job.

Capt. Erica Hoffmann, commanding officer of the guided-missile cruiser Philippine Sea was relieved of her duties on Monday, Navy officials announced. Rear Adm. Richard Cheeseman, commander of Carrier Strike Group Two, lost confidence in Hoffmann's ability to command, Lt. Cmdr. Richlyn Ivey with Naval Surface Force Atlantic said.

"Many factors weigh into a decision to relieve a commanding officer due to loss of confidence," Ivey added.

expect the Chief Engineer, MPA, and the Oil King have all ready been relieved of duty. XO might have to go also.

But I’ll bet the Captain & Crew were up to date on sensitivity and diversity training, the key to war-fighting.

It was 4000 gallons that spilled. That’s kind of a lot to spill with no one noticing.

It’s just not a job for a girl.

Apparently it's just not a job for a guy either considering all the male captains relieved over the past few years.

I had to look up MPA and Oil King, thx; I thought the XO too since he does the Plan of the Day and supervises each major task, right?

That’s true. It still goes to the captain’s ultimate responsibility for the quals of onboard personnel along with PMS.

I’m surprised the Navy is now letting lt. cmdrs. captain ships. Used to be the executive officer on a destroyer was a lt. cmdr.

O’Keefe and Danzig would be proud. Once upon a time there was an article talking about the ‘Danzigation’ of the US Navy but it’s been scrubbed: the Navy has led the way in feminizing and homosexualizing the force. Admiral Halsey is spinning in his grave.

Commanding officer is ultimately responsible especially in a major incident like this one, and takes the heat.

Bye

XO may go, He is responsibility for training on the ship.
the XO does not normally supervise major tasks.

“It was 4000 gallons that spilled. That’s kind of a lot to spill with no one noticing”.

There was no culture of accountability because she obviously could not command sufficient respect for her admonitions, hard questions and punishments to be taken seriously.

Signs of classic leadership failure.

It’s fundamental to hold a high standard for yourself first, then everyone you wish to lead.

As evidenced by the greatest leadership film/study ever created...

“Apparently it’s just not a job for a guy either”

I’ve served on two warships, deployed and as an aircrewman on TACAMO aircraft flying throughout the Pacific theater.

I’ve never encountered a female officer that could command the respect of their department.

Not once.

But I’ve encountered innumerable men that could...in spite of the occasional shitbird.
