The media grasping at straws to fit the narrative.
I would bet when all is said and one, there will basically the same number of deaths over a similar time span before covid...covid is hastening the deaths of people, many already on their way out anyway.
Cherry picking hard.
The numbers are going to be high right now, but if they can keep COVID-19 out of the retirement/nursing homes and keep their hospitals from being overwhelmed, there’s no reason to think their final death toll will be any higher than anyone else’s. Ultimately, nobody really knows whether their approach is better or worse right now because we’re still in the middle of this thing. Countries forcing everyone to stay at home are certainly showing lower numbers of deaths in the short term, but I suspect they’re merely prolonging the inevitable.
It’s a nasty bug. It’s going to kill a lot of people. That’s really sad, but poverty also kills a lot of people and shoving the world into a depression is going to cost lives too.
Swedens open strategy seems to have softened the blow on the economy, with growth shrinking much less than in Denmark and Norway in the first quarter.
6.25/1,000,000!!
OMG! And they haven’t shut down the country?!
They should be evicted from the EU! Capitalist Dogs! /S
How many real Swedes are getting it?
Sick. The MSM gleeful that people are dying.
Sweden is #6 in deaths per capita in the world.
Denmark is #15, with its similar demographic characteristics.
All we know is that the two countries have shown much the same trajectory. Time may tell whether one nation’s policies were better. Or it may not.

6.25 deaths per million = 64 deaths.

" Number of deaths in Sweden 2010-2020 Published by Agnete Lundetræ Jürgensen, May 11, 2020 The number of deaths in Sweden in 2020 amounted to 38,409 as of May 8. Several of the deaths in 2020 were related to the coronavirus epidemic. The highest number of coronavirus deaths were among individuals age 70 and older. Sweden was the Nordic country that reported the highest number of COVID-19 deaths in 2020 so far.
The most common causes of death in 2018
The most common cause of death in 2018 was diseases of the circulatory system (cardiovascular diseases), which caused just over 31 thousand deaths. This was followed by neoplasms (cancerous tumors) and diseases of the respiratory system.
Ischemic heart disease
Among the diseases in the circulatory system, the one that caused the most deaths was chronic ischemic heart disease. Chronic ischemic heart disease is when the blood flow to the heart is reduced, due to that the arteries of the heart are blocked. In 2018, 59.6 per hundred thousand inhabitants died due to ischemic heart disease. (more at link)"
You have a much better chance of dying of a heart attack in Sweden than of Covid.
Nuke Sweden and sterilize it.
They are eating their green beans before they eat their french fries.
Deaths per capita is cumulative, not “over last 7 days”
The important number is percent infected per capita, if that is high you are closer to being done.
The Dems and media are celebrating.
Who cares what the UN WHO thinks? Not me.
As to the headline, it is undercut by the text. Even before I read the text, I realized that a one week snapshot could be misleading.
My understanding is that Sweden has a Muslim problem. So I would look below the surface. Statistics could differ markedly between native Swedes and Muslim immigrants. As everywhere else, the city and rural divide should be considered.
The need to look below the surface was highlighted in the following story (as I remember it). Swedish economist: Our Swedes have a very low homicide rate. Milton Friedman: Our Swedes also.
It turns out that our Coronavirus problems are a big city problem. So state-wide lockdowns were unnecessary. Turns out, our problems were largely NY city problems vectored to Miami and other big cities. Sending infected people to nursing homes led to more deaths.
It’s not a world thing, American thing, or Swedish thing. Sweden is not one entity with one experience.
I do commend the Swedish politicians for thinking for themselves and bucking the trend. They should not be bullied into conformity by the press. That said, only time will tell if their strategy was good, bad or indifferent.
Belgium Locked down - 11,589,623 people... 9,108 deaths.
Sweden not Locked down - 10,099,265 people... 3,743 deaths.
Cherry pick it any way you want... Sweden isn't destroying their economy and their death count is relatively low... The mainstream media is angry because when all is said and done, the doom and gloom and fear and loathing messages they've delivered will be exposed as fake and reactionary... And the destruction of the economy will be on their heads. A bunch of employed people telling everybody else in the world to accept losing their jobs for the sake of saving a few thousand lives.
The Doctors have received new orders by the WHO to count ALL deaths as Covid-19 deaths
So Sweden has a spike for a week. The true measure is their numbers over 120 days.

The Swedish alternative: Coping with a virus while preserving livelihoods and liberties
By not locking down, the Nordic outlier has in effect ‘front-loaded’ its deaths and decreased those deaths later on.
