Pharmacy Board Loosens Restrictions on Hydroxychloroquine Prescriptions, Reversing Course

The Texas State Board of Pharmacy issued a new rule that no prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine could be dispensed without a diagnosis, then changed their tune.

Dr. Ivette Lozano, who has been in medical practice for over 20 years, was shocked to learn in March that she would be required to share her patient’s diagnosis with the pharmacist before prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin would be dispensed.

On March 20, the Texas State Board of Pharmacy issued a new rule that no prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine or azithromycin could be dispensed without a diagnosis “consistent with evidence for its use.”

“Never before have we had to turn in a diagnosis with a prescription,” Lozano told The Texan. Lozano has seen about five to six patients per week for coronavirus. “They see a dramatic improvement within six to eight hours,” Lozano said.

Health care attorney Matt Rinaldi said doctors have called him concerned about the requirement. He said the rule does not violate HIPAA regulations because patient information can be shared for treatment purposes.

“HIPAA is the bare minimum standard of privacy that patients expect, however,” Rinaldi added.

The Texas State Board of Pharmacy published the rule on its website with the explanation that it was meant to prevent hoarding of the medications during the coronavirus crisis.

“We had pharmacists calling early on saying that people were asking for 400 tablets on some prescriptions. The Board members gave this guidance to pharmacists,” Allison Benz, executive director of the Texas State Board of Pharmacy told The Texan.

Letter from Dr. Zelenko on Successful Chloroquine Treatment for Covid-19
The Lakewood Scoop ^ | March 23rd | Staff

Posted on 2020-03-27, 11:15:55 PM by Candor7

Dr. Vladimir (Zev) Zelenko

Board Certified Family Practitioner

501 Rt 208, Monroe, NY 10950

845-238-0000

March 23, 2020

To all medical professionals around the world:

My name is Dr. Zev Zelenko and I practice medicine in Monroe, NY. For the last 16 years, I have cared for approximately 75% of the adult population of Kiryas Joel, which is a very close knit community of approximately 35,000 people in which the infection spread rapidly and unchecked prior to the imposition of social distancing.

As of today my team has tested approximately 200 people from this community for Covid-19, and 65% of the results have been positive. If extrapolated to the entire community, that means more than 20,000 people are infected at the present time. Of this group, I estimate that there are 1500 patients who are in the high-risk category (i.e. >60, immunocompromised, comorbidities, etc).

Given the urgency of the situation, I developed the following treatment protocol in the pre-hospital setting and have seen only positive results:

1. Any patient with shortness of breath regardless of age is treated.

2. Any patient in the high-risk category even with just mild symptoms is treated.

3. Young, healthy and low risk patients even with symptoms are not treated (unless their circumstances change and they fall into category 1 or 2).

My out-patient treatment regimen is as follows:

1. Hydroxychloroquine 200mg twice a day for 5 days

2. Azithromycin 500mg once a day for 5 days

3. Zinc sulfate 220mg once a day for 5 days

The rationale for my treatment plan is as follows. I combined the data available from China and South Korea with the recent study published from France (sites available on request). We know that hydroxychloroquine helps Zinc enter the cell. We know that Zinc slows viral replication within the cell. Regarding the use of azithromycin, I postulate it prevents secondary bacterial infections. These three drugs are well known and usually well tolerated, hence the risk to the patient is low.

Since last Thursday, my team has treated approximately 350 patients in Kiryas Joel and another 150 patients in other areas of New York with the above regimen.

Of this group and the information provided to me by affiliated medical teams, we have had ZERO deaths, ZERO hospitalizations, and ZERO intubations. In addition, I have not heard of any negative side effects other than approximately 10% of patients with temporary nausea and diarrhea.

In sum, my urgent recommendation is to initiate treatment in the outpatient setting as soon as possible in accordance with the above. Based on my direct experience, it prevents acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), prevents the need for hospitalization and saves lives.

With much respect,

Dr. Zev Zelenko

This Doc was on Laura Ingraham’s show, the other night.

Thank God for good docs like her, and others, who fought the pharmacy board on their ridiculous restriction.

I might have agreed with you except after witnessing the way a relatively small number of hoarders wiped out supplies of toilet paper and hand sanitizer for months, I'm not so sure.

Also considering how many docs wrote scripts for themselves and their families, staff, etc., the 400 pills doesn’t sound too outrageous.

That would likely treat, what, about 20 people?

You don't need a doctors prescription for toilet paper.

I don't think Lupus patients are less likely to hoard than off label COVID patients. Both need a doctors prescription. Both need HCQ. Both should not be denied by a pharmacist.

God bless Dr. Zelenko!

All need to see his walk towards God in two parts. In Part I, the story of his journey to God starts about half way through and continues through Part II.

Dr. Zelenko’s letter with its information about hydroxychloronique and azithromycin was written on March 23. It is almost 2 months later. Has he published any further information on how his patients have been doing with this treatment?

Run a search on FR engine “Zelenko”

You will see that Big Pharm and the leftists at DOJ have sicked the FBI on Dr. Zelenko. So I imagine they are trying to shut him up.Too late for that. We have his back. The NCQ cat is out of the bag.

There is no doubt at all that HCQ cures this disease if given early in the infection process.

The “cure” is HCQ plus a combination of zinc sulfate and maybe Azithromycin if the patient can accept that antibiotic (I’m allergic to the so-called Z-pak). HCQ alone jmay or may not be beneficial, that hasn’t been demonstrated.
