After studying global data from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, researchers have discovered a strong correlation between severe vitamin D deficiency and mortality rates.

Led by Northwestern University, the research team conducted a statistical analysis of data from hospitals and clinics across China, France, Germany, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom (UK) and the United States.

The researchers noted that patients from countries with high COVID-19 mortality rates, such as Italy, Spain and the UK, had lower levels of vitamin D compared to patients in countries that were not as severely affected.

Vitamin D is cheap and readily available. Not a surprise to see this, but it's a good reminder.

It’s obvious,

We all need to stay quarantined and indoors.

Or, there is always the US answer, buy and consume something. You can shop/buy your way out of every problem in America. LOL

Sunshine and fresh air. Grandma’s old prescription for health.

Obviously ,if your system is fortified and healthy you’ll have a better chance of fighting infections. Duh.

Death is generally considered a severe complication.

What I can’t figure out is why the beaches are closed.

I’ve lived in California all my life, and no one plops down a beach towel right next to another family’s “spot”. People automatically maximize the distance between groups, and the sun, fresh air etc. provide benefits well beyond just zapping the CCP virus, and every other virus.

It’s about control, i’m beginning to suspect...

I agree. Lucky for us we live in a warm place where walking in the sunshine is a lovely bonus. Especially when there is a cool breeze, like the last few days.

Vitamin D deficiency is incredibly common in the US and Europe, and may play a role in the poorer outcomes that we’re seeing in the African American communities here.

Well worth popping a pill that costs less than a penny a dose, IMHO, and getting out and getting some fresh air and sunshine.

Also zinc. I take that regularly to ward off stuff floating around in the cabin.

Right. If it can’t be expensively monetized, scientists aren’t interested.

Black people have less vitamin D. Black people have worse outcomes when infected with the Corona virus. Black people go to jail more. Does that mean that jail causes Corona virus?

This is correlation. There is no study that takes out ethnicity. There is no study that looks at healthy white males and breaks them into low vitamin D high Vitamin D and then sees how it falls out. There are always correlations that are more likely to explain virus more than vitamin D.

Vitamin D, triggered by sunshine?

No wonder all those urban rat nest dwellers in NYC are dying.

Been convinced of that since this crap was started. A trial run for something, perhaps. Get the sheep conditioned to it with something scary.

If you have normal vitamin D levels, your skin will produce enough in 15-30 minutes of exposure to keep you at normal levels.

Easy to accomplish in sunny southern California during the summer, not so much in New York. Where it snowed today.

No wonder the COVID-19 started in China. Most Oriental Asians are lactose intolerant. No vitamin D in any of their diet.

MMMMmmmmmooooooooooooooooooo!

No ice cream, no whipped cream, no 1/2 n 1/2 and no ice cream!

Well,

Thank God they left the airlines open to operate. We all know that folks sneezing inside of small can and sharing that air can’t spread those germs.

Home Depot and Lowes got to stay open too!

Who and what got to stay open, as well as get money from this gubbermint, was directly proportional to the influence they had on those making the rules and enforcing them.

Walmart got to stay open (because they are so essential), and of course they also sold out on bicycles, weights, etc. But a bicycle shop was told to close... Parks were closed...

Want to know what morons the gubbermint is? Here in Arlington Texas they wanted to close the parks. They couldn’t realistically do that. So gubbermint with it’s wisdom and need to herd the people (think for them) locked up all the bathrooms that were fixed structures, they removed the temporary ones and shut off the water. Today the parks are full of toilet paper and stink like poop. I suppose some gubbermint bureaucrat can write themselves up for an award and brief that as some great success. Idiots-

It’s early days yet, but I don’t see the harm. My cousin married a black girl who has been pestering her family to get their vitamin D levels checked or supplemented.

May be nothing, but there’s essentially zero risk with a 2000 iu supplement once a day or so.

To me Vitamin D has seemed an obvious from the beginning and I have told everyone I know to the point of making myself obnoxious to get sunshine or take D3 supps.
