Most Americans say they doubt the U.S. death count — but whether they think it's actually higher or lower depends on whether they're Democrats or Republicans, according to the latest installment of the Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index.
Why it matters: This may be the most jarring evidence to date about just how deeply partisanship has infected our collective ability to trust institutional sources and agree on science and facts. Trust in government is abstract, but death counts are real.
Week 8 of our national weekly survey also finds trust in the federal government slipping to new lows, across party lines.

The country is very deeply divided and has been for quite a long time.
I see 2 ways to get people (mostly) on the same page —
1) Show clear evidence that President Trump is a racist and incompetent and convince Republican voters and Republican politicians to impeach him. Convince the American people that the Democrats are the Good Guys.
2) Show clear evidence of a Deep State coup and media manipulation designed to fool the public. Convince Democrat voters to abandon the failed and evil policies of the Left. Get all Democrats out of public office. Convince the American people that the Republicans are the Good Guys.
Which path seems more likely?
People doubt with good reason. Doctors and undertakers are speaking out about the exponential rise of ‘Covid Deaths’. People are awakening to the political hits that the reporting of these deaths are. The higher numbers are simply to have a cudgel to use against Trump, before the November election. Happily, many Americans are smarter than to believe everything they read and hear from our National Media.
The death tolls and everything about this corona virus thing is totally fake.
This corona virus thing is not about saving lives or health or anything like that. It’s a political war.
They’re using fear to get conservatives and Americans to surrender, give up their freedoms, destroy their economy (and so our Leader Trump), and destroy our country and capitalism.
This is a communist/socialist coup.
This year 2020 there was never any threat from any virus more so than every year from the yearly flu. This corona malarky is no more deadly than any other regular flu and never was.

Has anyone published the numbers on death rates in 2019 and 2020? Take everyone who died, remove violence, accident and suicide and then look at the total remaining. That should remove any judgement calls and multiple causes. How much has the death rate gone up?
You know, in my opinion, polls aren’t worth a sh!t with seeing/understanding the full, unedited context of/how the question(s) asked.

No, dead bodies are real. What some bureaucrat writes down on a form as the “cause of death” is just a supposition, and quite probably influenced by the federal government offering his state tens of thousands of dollars if he just writes down a magic word.
Even that could be misleading. How many people this year died of treatable conditions just because they didn’t go to the hospital because they were afraid of the virus?
I’m sure nobody knows the answer to that, but I’m also sure it has happened to some degree.

I have not looked at the numbers, but, here are the possibilities following your methodology ( and since we are only in the Month of May 2020 as of this writing, we have to look at 5 month period from January to May for the years we want to compare):
1) The numbers remain quite similar ( not exactly equal but up or down are different only by a few hundreds or a few thousand)
2) The 2020 numbers are UP significantly
3) The 2020 numbers are DOWN significantly
If we see something like #1 or #3 above, then we can probably conclude that they have OVERCOUNTED Covid-19 deaths.
Only if #2 is true can it tell us that Covid-19 contributed to a significant death toll in the US population.
BTW, this method should be applicable to all other countries that keep good records.
