Most of us have been in lockdown for about six weeks. The objective was to flatten the curve and reduce the total number of victims of COVID-19. Well, the curve has been flattened indeed, but how is it six-weeks later there are 25,375 new cases in a single day?
With all the laws and policies implemented to knock out this virus, I expected wed be on the last leg of the downward curve by now. But, instead of a peak and decline, weve had three peaks and shallow valleys between them.
If people are staying at home, practicing social distancing, wearing masks in public, washing their hands and sanitizing everything in sight, how is it that COVID-19 continues to be transmitted from person to person?
A couple possibilities that occurred to me are that: 1) People flouting the laws, or 2) The virus is phenomenally virulent beyond anything ever seen before ( bio-weapon).
I was fully on board with the lockdown orders when they were issued. It was what we needed to do to beat this. However, we are at the point that the cure is becoming worse than the disease. In addition to what this virus has done to people directly, what about the collateral damage, such as long-term damage to our economy? For instance, consider the first two trillion dollar bail-out. Who pays for it? If you are among the approximate one-hundred-million US tax payers, you do. The federal government just signed your name to a $20,000 loan. Dont think so? Do the math.
It would be particularly interesting to hear the stories of COVID-19 cases that youve heard of in the last couple weeks and theories of how they were exposed.
Should we just let this thing take an inevitable course, or should we double-down on lock-down?
Well said.
Nicely said.
Does it have a hole that pops open for exhaling? If so, then you are only filtering while you breathe in and if you have COVID, you are exhaling all of your infection.
Also, Taiwan is 1/10 our population.
I can see you and I agree on not testing anyone any longer. It just frightens the little ones.
Im AARP age and my wife and I have gone out multiple times a day without any protection since this started.
We have P100 masks which we put on only to freak out Costco people yesterday, because they refused us without them. They are gas masks.
A little boy couldnt stop staring!
A full material mask does reduce your exhale ability and greatly attenuates long distance sneeze particles.
Any mask that has a pop-open exhale valve will not filter sneeze or COVID particles coming from you.
“We would have no new cases of COVID if we didnt test. Also, Taiwan is 1/10 our population.”
Do our thread a favor and please don’t comment on something that you have NO CLUE about.
LOL! What I said is completely true!
Enjoy your panic.
“LOL! What I said is completely true!”
Sure - got a link to show that Taiwan isn’t testing?
I have come to the conclusion that you can’t rationalize with those with sweaty palms.
Yes there is an economic disaster underway. It is very difficult to know what the right thing to do is at this point.
I was simply observing that most people, according to polls and chatter are MORE AFRAID of CoV than they are of depression, that the chance of pandemic acceleration after reopening is significant (I make it around 30%), and if that happens the reopening politicians are going to pay a price.
Korea has warned the death rate will be at least 5% unless stringent measures are taking—America is ignoring that advice.
LOL! Exactly.
Excellent.
Thank you for mentioning that.
ConservativeMind: LOL! What I said is completely true!

Note how FluBros don’t respond when called out.
I have no idea what you’re talking about.
Stringent measures dont matter when a statistical sample of everyone shows everyone already got it, due to antibody tests.
Look at Sweden. They have no measures except if you want to hide, hide. To date, just over 2,000 people who have died had a COVID tie-in from a comorbidity. In essence, almost no one is dying of consequence and flues are no different.
Note how BobL asks questions that have nothing to do with my answers?
