Missouri Governor Says Concerts Can Resume Monday
Billboard ^ | May 2, 2020 | Taylor Mims

Missouri Governor Mike Parson has given the okay for concerts to begin again in the state as early as Monday.

On April 27, Governor Parson released his Show Me Strong recovery plan that details plans for gradually reopening the state's economy starting May 4. The plan allows for retail stores to serve customers in-store at limited capacities and for restaurants to re-establish dine-in services while remaining socially distanced.

A first for the country since governments started instating lockdown orders, Missouri will allow residents to attend live events, including concerts. According to the Show Me Strong guidelines, large events and gatherings are no longer banned, but in order to go to a concert, movie theater or stadium "seating shall be spaced out according to social distancing requirements."

A representative from Missouri's Department of Health and Senior Services clarified for Billboard that concerts do not have to adhere to the same occupancy limitations as retail businesses, but event organizers are expected to keep concertgoers six feet or more apart to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"There are currently no limitations on social gatherings as long as necessary precautions are taken and six feet of distance can be maintained between individuals and/or families," the Show Me Strong recovery plan reads.

Missouri's larger cities and live music hubs such as St. Louis, Springfield and Kansas City will not see concerts or large gatherings return next week. Local officials from Missouri's major cities, including St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson, plan to keep the city's Stay Home order in effect until further notice.

No mention of Branson? I know it isn’t the music center it once was but it still packs then in.

I just looked at Missouri's case numbers and number of those who've died. They've been having an increase in both since about 29 April. Concerts? Now? Sounds like those numbers may be going even higher.

May 2
8,154 cases
351 deaths

What’s your point? Stay inside and crunch more numbers if you’re uncomfortable going out in public.

Open air may be alright. I wouldn’t go to one inside though.
Good luck to them.

Wonder what their percent pos of testing is? Falling I hope.

On a size- and time-adjusted basis, Missouri's cumulative fatality count is - and has been - way below the national average and better than low-count countries like Austria.

Further, we need to start flattening the suicide curve; with 25MM extra unemployed people over just 2 months, financially-driven suicides will swamp any remaining COVID-19 fatalities waiting in the wings.

While I agree with reopening the economy, provided proper safe guards are in place, such as the wearing of PPE, when appropriate, I question the wisdom of holding concerts with thousands of screaming people in attendance. How the heck are they going to enforce the "social distance" distances mentioned in this piece? Not going to happen unless the concert is indoors and seating arrangements are forced upon the attendees.

I base my concert after seeing the spike in cases Louisiana experienced after Mardi Gras, and same for many states after spring breakers returned.

Both their fatality index and case indexes are equal to the current national average of about 3% each. So nothing special about Missouri that I see, except they’re probably in the early stages of progression. I’m simply questioning the wisdom of having concerts at this time, if the article is even accurate about such.

Fully-informed consent.

Anyone going to a concert is aware of the risks. The fact is, young (i.e. your avg concert-goer) and healthy people don't get it as easily as their compliment. Further, Wisconsin had voting and its numbers didn't spike. Finally, people working the venues need income, they need to be productive.

Will we see some increased cases or fatalities in MO? Maybe, but it'll be smaller than the suicides.

I’m neither, and fly just to attend a concert, but I won’t be attending any just yet, or flying commercially. YMMV.

I have an awesome American Flag Mask my mechanic gave me.

I am going to frame it tomorrow.

I’m done wearing that damn thing.

Can’t comforably breathe after about 10 minutes.

the demand to wear a mask is to contrive and instill fear in everyone.

I stopped going to McDonald’s for Coffee because the kids explained why their mask isn’t over their nose:

It keeps slipping and they have to touch it a million times a day to readjust....With their gloved hands

The same gloved hands have been touching a personal mask that has to be worn every day, while they hack, cough, sneeze into all the day long and who knows where they lay it in between shifts or what is done with it while and after they ShifT every morning...

And how often do they clean it?

How many times a shift do they change their gloves?
