New York (CNN Business)Tyson Foods (TSN) is warning that "millions of pounds of meat" will disappear from the supply chain as the coronavirus pandemic pushes food processing plants to close, leading to product shortages in grocery stores across the country. "The food supply chain is breaking," wrote board chairman John Tyson in a full-page advertisement published Sunday in The New York Times, Washington Post and Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
US farmers don't have anywhere to sell their livestock, he said, adding that "millions of animals — chickens, pigs and cattle — will be depopulated because of the closure of our processing facilities." "There will be limited supply of our products available in grocery stores until we are able to reopen our facilities that are currently closed," Tyson wrote.

Tyson didn’t close those plants because of the lockdown.
Those plants are closed because HUNDREDS of employees at each one tested positive for the virus.
You want to see ‘hotspot’ counties in the middle of nowwhere? Look at the county map for the virus. It’s easy to spot which counties, in rural america, have those plants.

We had very few cases in our rural county until the virus got loose in the processing plant. Now we have nearly 100 cases. Most all of them related to the processing plant.
BTW, the plant never closed for the ‘lockdown’. These plants are essential. The plant closed because a majority of the workers tested positive, a cpl died (last I counted) and they’re having to sterilize the plant and install shields between workers.
This is about the closest thing to the “Kobiyashi Maru” situation that anyone can face.
All things considered, Trump is doing just fine. But nobody is going to be happy with it, just the same.

The meat processing plants are notorious for using lowly paid immigrant laborers. Some of these people live in shared housing where occupancy limits are not followed.
Where the hell have you been, to say Trump is silent on the US oil industry tanking?
