As of today, nearly 55,000 Americans are reported to have died because of COVID-19.
It is well known that the elderly and frail are more susceptible to the Wuhan Coronavirus. As a result, almost one of five COVID-19 deaths have occurred among those who live in nursing homes or other long-term care institutions.
New York state is the epicenter of the American outbreak, accounting for 40% of the deaths. The grim statistic stems from the fact New York City has recorded over 155,000 cases (16% of the national total) and over 11,000 deaths (22% of American deaths).
One factor for the NYC numbers is that the NYC subway system is a moving petri dish....Another factor is the New York state mandate that nursing homes must readmit residents sent to hospitals with the coronavirus and accept new patients as long as they are deemed medically stable. This order apparently stems from the politically correct motivation of fairness, a ludicrous approach to preventing the spread of disease.
The clientele at these establishments now have additional stress and worry about coronavirus exposures.
The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is sounding the alarm about the mandate as well.

For crying out loud. There is always going to be crap through a crisis like this as nobody has ever dealt with something of this magnitude, especially when sh!t was going sideways in NYC.
It’s no one’s fault as everyone, everyone, is trying to do the best they can with the limited tools they have. That includes Trump and the governors.
If you want to blame someone, blame China for covering this up and the WHO.
Im in Upstate NY. In our county, all 5 deaths were from 1 nursing home. Between residents & staff, they are approaching 60 cases.
And he wants to open, now that all those red states (that dont have moving Petrie dish subways) are opening.
Maybe for the same reason as the tailor with the $15,000 suits wants to stay open, so his clientele doesnt discover more modestly priced alternatives (that wont kill grandma, in Cuomos case).
And after letting criminals out - they started harassing normal people for perceived violations of the new rules & encourage neighbors to turn on each other.
There are 25,000 dead in NY. How is that a record to brag about?
My wife is staying on our place in Arkansas, all of that county’s cases are in a nursing home.
I just cant fathom how he is the media star through all this while presiding over the biggest death and mortality rate numbers in the country... Pure insanity!
Which is why I always hated that wimp. He just stands there with that stupid grin on his face and say “Well, ya know, blah blah blah”
I’m upstate NY also. 17 deaths in our entire county, almost all were elderly, with existing serious health conditions.
Not downplaying their loss, but if you are over 80 and already near death due to a serious condition and then catch a virus - any virus - you probably won’t make it.
“..Meanwhile, they sent nearly no one to the overflow hospitals the President had the Army Corp of Engineers construct or the Hospital Ship the Navy sent.”
That made me very angry too. Is Dictator Cuomo stupid, or is he trying to kill us.
I also heard he sent patients with Coronavirus to the Albany Medical Center in upstate NY. Is he trying to infect upstate NY, or is he again stupid?
Yes, he was sending Covid patients upstate. I think it was to multiple locations.
No! It was at a minimum premeditated!
No! It was at a minimum premeditated!
It’s horrifying to consider, but I do believe it had to have been deliberate
“....I think it was to multiple locations.”
But why, when he already had multiple locations, with so many empty beds, right in NY CITY.
Its horrifying to consider, but I do believe it had to have been deliberate.
The governors of NY and New Jersey knew what they were doing when they sent CV patients back to nursing homes to die.
Out here in Californicator land, we keep hearing about 30 - 50 patients with the CV virus in certain counties.
Yet in the hospitals where these patients should/would be treated, there are none or maybe 1-2 patients.
So, where are those patients being treated if they have serious CV?
Your response, “Its horrifying to consider, may be the correct answer 3,000 miles from NY and NJ.
Well, if it spreads across the state, he can justify keeping the lock down going longer. Which he wants to do to the ENTIRE state even though most of the areas outside of NYC have very low death rates.
What he announced today about his plan to reopen NY is simply a disaster. And it picks winners - unions, wink, wink. I am not saying anything against unions, but Dem politicians will put them at the head of the line every time. Now is no exception.
We will be able to see some businesses start to operate in upstate regions on May 15. Construction and light manufacturing. That’s it. Cuomo will wait two weeks, then assess the COVID19 levels over the next 2 weeks (I think that’s how he explained it) then if all looks good to Gov. Cuomo, he will select a couple more types of businesses to be allowed to re open. Then after two weeks, he assesses the COVID19 levels again, and on and on.
I heard Cuomo today say that the nursing homes were free not to take COVID patients.
Not one stupid reporter questioned Cuomo about his comment and the mandate.
“....And it picks winners - unions, wink, wink. I am not saying anything against unions, but Dem politicians will put them at the head of the line every time. ....”
This and all of your thoughts are excellent!
My boss got one of those PPP loans. Sadly, it will be used up before he even gets to open the doors of the Shop again.
With Cuomo being a tyrant, who can tell when he will allow little mom & pop retailers to reopen. I fear that we will be one of the last types of businesses allowed to be released from lock-down.
