On Friday evening, the 8731 Katy Freeway location of Federal American Grill in Houston, Texas, opened up its doors for in-dining room customers despite an ongoing order from state and local lawmakers to remain closed except for take-out.
Owner Matt Brice told the Houston Chronicle that the restaurant has complied 100 percent until now.
What I dont like is that the government is picking and choosing which businesses win or lose. They are sinking the economy, Brice said. We have to stand our ground and get people back to work.
Brice also told the Chronicle that precautions were being taken in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, as one death is too many.
The restaurant is operating at only 30% seating capacity, according to the owner, and staff are required to wear face masks and gloves, as well as have their temperature checked prior to working. Additionally, customers are afforded the opportunity to pay with Venmo and PayPal, reports the news outlet.

Still, defiance is to be applauded.
Should be fun eating with a mask on. I’ll take the barbecue ribs with extra sauce.
Don’t get the wearing gloves thing at all.
Gloves at to protect the wearer - not the other person. Everything you touch is picked up on the gloves and transferred to the next item.
Yea Texas!!
Covid-19 still has yet to match the seasonal flu of 2018...
“Should be fun eating with a mask on.”
I think it says only the staff wear masks, not the customers.
Countries where everybody wears a mask in public around people (grocery stores, buses etc) are beating Coronavirus. That's just a fact. You can google it, or I can post news links all day long. Denial is not a river in Egypt, it's a mental blockage to reality.
And as Nassim "Black Swan" Taleb and others have pointed out, if everybody wears even 50% effective cotton masks (when around other people in public, especially indoors) the combined reduction in the chance of transmission between two persons is 75%. And the benefits increase from there, because there are less viral boogers floating around to infect 3rd and 4th parties, or to land on surfaces to be picked up by others.
The goal is to beat the RO number down under 1 until a pandemic disappears. If you do, it will. If you don't it won't.
They figured this out in 1918, and it took us a century to un-learn it.
Masks are mandatory to get into any store around here. I found some cheap bandanas-bought 24 for $36. Put them in a plastic bag in the car and on the dash where the sun can boil them.
Damn if I'll pay 20 bucks for 20 throw away masks since they're suppose to be one use only.
Some outdoor seating! Easy to do in Texas. BBQ tastes better outside anyways.
But, herd-immunity?
Covid-19 still has yet to match the seasonal flu of 2018...”
It’s no where near the Hong Kong flu of the Kate 60s.
A slight tug down and that mask would do some actual effective work as a bib...
Herd immunity in the best case requires at least 75% to have been infected and recovered. We are at most around 5-10% nationally, using the most generous definitions with some questionable tests.
Waiting for herd immunity is like waiting for a vaccine: dumb and dangerous. In the meantime, many thousands will die unnecessarily. In addition, there might not be an effective vaccine, or herd immunity. 1. The SARS vaccine was so dangerous, trials were stopped. 2. There is no evidence that folks infected with CV can't be reinfected, or that they will have permanent immunity.
The way to beat this rapidly is by preventing cross-infection, and masks are a huge part of that equation.
Here's a concrete example:
A hospital dropping from 12 to 6 infected staff per day is a concrete and repeatable result. And that's in a hospital, with much greater chance of infection than your average grocery store etc.
You can also compare countries that went to masks in public, and observe the big drops in their infection rates. (Austria, Czech Republic off the top of my head.)
The goal is to beat the RO down under 1 until it disappears naturally, then get back to normal life.
This worked by 1920, and it can work in 2020.
I wouldn’t use Apple Pay, if I were them. I would bet that Apple would be more than happy to share the customer info with the po-po.
Agreed—Freepers should be supporting masks as the solution.
Everyone wears one, and a large part of the economy can function again without dire consequences.

In places where extensive testing has been done, specifically in virus “hotspots” like Chelsea MA, show 32% have already been exposed to the virus, with around half reporting no symptoms.

Masks should be fun as we head into the months of July and August.
Covid-19 has killed 50,000 in a month and a half. Do the math.
Note 1: These graphs are not models, projections, forecasts or theories. These are log graphs of data. This has already happened.
Note 2: Nobody, including the graphologist, believes Chinese or Iranian numbers. His job is to plot the official reported numbers, not to inject his own slant. On his Twitter feed, he explains all this in great detail. John Burn-Murdoch @jburnmurdoch
Note 3: You can dispute the numbers of "real" covid cases etc, but it's still useful to observe trends based on consistent methodology.
Cumulative deaths.
Daily deaths, 7 day rolling average.
I by far consider “Greta” McGee to be one of the most obnoxious of the fearmongers, but what he said about the use of masks is absolutely correct, and the almost juvenile opposition to using them on the right baffles me. Like their manhood is at-stake or something.
Something cheap, easy, and almost effortless.
Why don’t you get on a slow boat and go back to China where you came from?
