NEW YORK CITY In an almost unbelievable twist of irony, the most cases of the new coronavirus in New York City have been found in the Queens neighborhood of Corona.
No New York City region has reported more positive COVID-19 tests than the zip code 11368 which covers Corona, North Corona and Willets Point with 947 cases reported as of March 31, city data show.
More than 77 percent of the 1,227 Corona residents tested received confirmation they had the deadly virus, New York City Health Department data show.
The neighborhood's population is the most badly affected in New York City, which in turn has become the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak in the U.S. with 47,439 confirmed cases reported and 1,096 lives claimed since the disease was first spotted in the city just one month ago.
All figures were as of March 31.
New York is the only city among the top ten of Johns Hopkins University's list of places with the most reported deaths. The other nine are nations.
The Johns Hopkins University tracker reported Wednesday the U.S. has more cases than any other nation in the world with more than 206,000.
Queens has seen its numbers skyrocket, pushing the vast Elmhurst Hospital far past capacity just weeks into outbreak, with 13,869 COVID-19 cases as of March 31, data show.
Mayor Bill de Blasio has been loathe to release hyperlocal data on the outbreak, but after reporters pleaded last week for more information, the Health Department began publishing localized maps.
Health Department data show nearby Elmhurst has the second highest rate of positive cases with 831 confirmed COVID-19 patients and Borough Park in Brooklyn the third with 771.
How inflated are the numbers with the NYS edicts of counting ANY death with coronavirus or suspected coronavirus as a stat?
Literally, a person could be shot in the head during a robbery, and if they were even suspected to have thr virus, it goes in the death count.
Represented by Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez?
I wonder why?!?
Interesting how the poorest areas are the most affected in NYC. This is like due to both 1) greater numbers of people living per house/apartment with inter-generational sharing of living space, and 2) greater use of mass transit.

Dang it. Beat me to it!
Is this AOC’s district?
Irony..... yep
Coingkidink..... nah, no way
Yep.... now need eye bleach.
New York City is dying. Blacks make up 13 % of the USA population...37% of Corona Virus deaths in NYC are African-Americans neglected by years and years of Democrat Party Scum & Vermin...with Obama being the absolute worst of them. It will soon all come out!!!
Why.,....Senior Blacks live in poverty with drug abuse, crime murder, no jobs, no opportunities, terrible education. Diabetes, heart trouble, breathing trouble, improper diets, etc. The only recent support has come big time from POTUS, Donald J. Trump!!!
Trump is your man...American Blacks...but...sadly, you do not have a clue as to how bad Obama has screwed you all in his eight years as POTUS. You have been used abused and neglected by your so called friendly Democrat Party especially the low life Obamas...period!!!abusers!!! The truth hurts...but the truth is still the truth!!!
I believe so
Corona is largely a hispanic neighborhood and has a high number of undocumented individuals. I wonder how many of the covis infected are undocumented. I don’t believe DeBlasio has released that number.
I would imagine before this became known, many took the subway, or other mass transit to Manhattan twice a day. They are usually packed in there like sardines.
Corona is served by the 7 Train, the single most crowded subway line in the city and probably the world. It starts at the Javuts Center and ends in Main St Flushing. Flushing is Korean and Chinese. Corona and Elmhurst Hispanic. Woodside Sunnyside are everything. Jackson Hts whilte and South Asian.
Could it be that anytime someone IN Corona dies, they automatically add it to the coronavirus death tally?
“Goodbye Rosie,.. the queen of Corona...” /simon
When I was kid visiting my grandfather in Manhattan, he would take me to the park. He stopped to chat along the way with other retired people he knew in the neighborhood who were sitting at benches, getting some fresh air. This was true even in the winter, so long as it wasn’t ridiculously cold.
I remember them talking about how now that it was flu season they were being careful not to ride the subways because they knew being elderly they were more at risk for flu complications and the subways were crowded. They just curtailed their various entertainment activities that they took the subway downtown to get to. In some cases, if they didn’t have a bad hip or something, they walked maybe 20 blocks or so to visit a friend instead of taking the subway.
I also remember that these people were not overweight.
