It may not have been her words, but Katie Couric quote tweeting a Charles Blow op-ed saying how airing President Trumps Wuhan coronavirus pressers is journalistic malpractice is quite something. First, Blow hates Trump. Second, every registered Democrat thats a member of the mediaall of themhates these pressers now because theyve helped the president in the polls. They thought trashing the market would do the trick. It didnt. The Dow is slowly recovering and the presidents response to this Wuhan coronavirus outbreak has been proactive and aggressive. Highlighting the negative has become some odd fetish by members of the media, and this is something that only has occurred during this presidency. Its more than obvious that the press wants this man to fail and they know, whether they want to admit it or not, that if Trump is on camerathats trouble (via NYT) [emphasis mine]:
We are in the middle of a pandemic, but we are also in the middle of a presidential campaign, and I shudder to think how much earned media the media is simply shoveling Trumps way by airing these briefings, which can last up to two hours a day. Let me be clear: Under no circumstance should these briefings be carried live. Doing so is a mistake bordering on journalistic malpractice. Everything a president does or says should be documented but airing all of it, unfiltered, is lazy and irresponsible.
As the veteran anchor Ted Koppel told The New York Times last month, Training a camera on a live event, and just letting it play out, is technology, not journalism; journalism requires editing and context. He continued, The question, clearly, is whether his status as president of the United States obliges us to broadcast his every briefing live. His answer was no.
But Ted also told CNN that their ratings would be in the toilet if Trump wasnt around, so theres a business angle to this too. Also, its not just Trumpmembers of the coronavirus task force and the military officers assisting in the effort are part of these pressers. Its not all Trump. Blows reference to this being an election year and earned media is a dead giveaway that he just hates these things because Trump is part of it, but back to Couric.
The emphasized text is what was part of her now-deleted tweet, but the Internet is forever. In fact, there was another one; our friends at Twitchy caught it where she is also quote tweeting Blows piece with stop airing the briefings.
Does anyone want to take a stab why this is hilarious? Its the seat of irony. I mean, Couric has zero standing to talk about journalistic malpractice when she selectively edited her documentary to make Virginia gun owners look bad. It was done, supposedly, to let the viewer reflect on universal background checks. Thats crap. We know it. You know it. And in a rare instance, this was a case where not even NPR could defend Courics politburo antics. Even The Washington Post torched her for the editing. And this isnt the first time her lack of self-awareness led to her stepping on a rake. In 2017, she said that fake news was tearing America apart at the seams, says the woman who committed journalistic malpractice and peddled fake news about the Second Amendment.
Katie and most of the rest of our media would be right at home on North Korea or Chinas state run propaganda outlets...
We dont want you to see what people say. Its important that WE tell you what people say... In our own words.
Masters of propaganda.
Wow. It looks like Ted is suffering form Stage 4 Retard.
More technology and less journalism. American journalism is dead and the MSM killed it.
Trumps words ring more true than ever!!!!
FAKE NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!
like any rational person couldn’t already see!
Thanks, Ted, Ill take the unfiltered version and skip the opinions of everyone that didnt vote for Trump, aka the media.
Ministry of Truth.
As the veteran anchor Ted Koppel told The New York Times last month, Training a camera on a live event, and just letting it play out, is technology, not journalism; journalism requires editing and context. That's not journalism, Ted. It's propaganda.
Of course, nowadays it's basically the same thing.
I recall reading in Wayne Lapierre’s book “Guns, Crime, and Freedom” a story about Katie back in about 1993 when she interviewed a female black police officer in Atlanta who was recovering from a gunshot wound. Apparently when Katie asked this officer if she thought that stricter gun control laws would be the answer, the officer told Katie no and that criminals will always be able to get guns. Katie then ended the interview in a polite, but obviously quick and abrupt way when she did not get the answer she was likely seeking.
Trump’s daily presser are must-see. He has surrounded himself with some sharp people. And Pence has shown that he has the stuff. Plus you get the bonus of Trump’s daily duel with dumb press people.
The mockingbirds aren’t so much into covering the news as they are in smothering it.
I watch the briefings most every day.
What’s interesting is that most of the reporters don’t seem to write any thing down. Some do have pads though.
Yesterday was special. Brett Baier was front row center and the President called him out. A very distinctive honor. Then in the last few minutes, after the President et al were gone, Brett stood up in front of the White House sign and closed out his Special Report live
The reason they've helped President Trump in the polls is because they show the truth, unaltered, uncorrected to influence public opinion, unadulterated by propaganda--just what's there.
Couric has a history of editing things to make people look bad. In 2008 she interviewed Palin for 9 hours over a period of days, and edited it down to 30 minutes, selecting only those portions that made Palin look like a total dunce. CBS even went so far as to splice the interview, having Couric’s question and then splicing in Palin’s answer to a totally different question.
Couric was such a dope that she had no idea of how to approcah the Palin interview so she contacted Sam Nunn who told her to hammer Palin on abortion, abortion, abortion.
I remember Couric’s interview with Biden in 2008. Biden said that “in 1929 President Roosevelt went on TV to reassure the public...” Couric just sat there nodding her head in agreement, probably not having any idea that in 1929 Hoover was President and there was no TV.
The only legitimate purpose of the free press is to inform the people truthfully. Anything else is not journalism; it's something else.
Yes, I noticed that yesterday (04/21/20) when Brett Baier asked President Trump a question. After getting his answer, he turned to his right (looked liked he was listening to the reporter on his right) and wrote nothing down. Interesting.
