More deaths, no benefit from malaria drug in VA virus study By MARILYNN MARCHIONE
This Monday, April 6, 2020 file photo shows an arrangement of hydroxychloroquine pills in Las Vegas. According to a study released on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, the malaria drug widely touted by President Donald Trump for treating the new coronavirus showed no benefit in an analysis of its use in U.S. veterans hospitals. There were more deaths among those given hydroxychloroquine versus standard care, researchers report. ( Hydroxychloroquine made no difference in the need for a breathing machine, either.
Researchers did not track side effects, but noted hints that hydroxychloroquine might have damaged other organs. The drug has long been known to have potentially serious side effects, including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.
Earlier this month, scientists in Brazil stopped part of a hydroxychloroquine study after heart rhythm problems developed in one-quarter of people given the higher of two doses being tested.
Many doctors have been leery of the drug.
At the University of Wisconsin, Madison, I think were all rather underwhelmed at whats been seen among the few patients there whove tried it, said Dr. Nasia Safdar, medical director of infection control and prevention.
Patients asked about it soon after Trump started promoting its use, but now I think that people have realized we dont know if it works or not and needs more study, said Safdar, who had no role in the VA analysis.
The NIH and others have more rigorous tests underway.

“versus standard care”
Thus far, administration of the drug seems mostly limited to the more severe cases. How severe were the symptoms of the population receiving “standard care”? Is this an apples-to-apples comparison?

That sounds scientific.
Reports have already shown that once they are on a ventilator it is too late for the drugs. They have to be taken as soon as symptoms are seen.
Anybody have a link to the study itself? Has it been submitted for review? Lots of questions and no answers.
I’ll wait for the Babylon Bee report on it, probably will be more factual.

Here is what I will be asking for if I get hit with the Plague..among other things. Trying to hang on until the medical community can come up with a plan that everyone can access. Right now..we dont have it in the U.S.

Wow great stuff man. My experience with toci has been nothing short of miraculous. But all the hospitals in this state battling for doses. Can’t get sirulamab. God bless you in NYC. I get freaked out here dealing with 5-10. Can’t imagine dealing with your volume. Please be safe.

Meet the worlds most powerful doctor: Bill Gates

Some billionaires are satisfied with buying themselves an island. Bill Gates got a United Nations health agency in Geneva.
Over the past decade, the worlds richest man has become the World Health Organizations second biggest donor, second only to the United States and just above the United Kingdom. This largesse gives him outsized influence over its agenda, one that could grow as the U.S. and the U.K. threaten to cut funding if the agency doesnt make a better investment case.
The result, say his critics, is that Gates priorities have become the WHOs....
In January, 30 health advocacy groups penned an open letter to WHOs executive board protesting against making the Gates Foundation an official partner of the agency because its revenue comes from investments in companies that are at odds with public health goals, such as Coca-Cola...
Gates influence over the WHO was called into question once again during the race to succeed Chan as its director general.
The final three candidates include Sania Nishtar, a cardiologist from Pakistan who has pledged to take the agency back to its former glory; David Nabarro, a British physician and former U.N. special envoy for Ebola; and Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who has served as health minister and foreign minister in the Ethiopian government.
...Last year, a French diplomat suggested that Gates also supports Tedros, having funded health programs in his country when he was health minister. Several foundation officials have denied this, saying that the foundation cannot take a position given that it is not a voting member country and thus has to remain neutral.
I think that is right. The earlier the better.
Thousands of doctors are using it now.
Turkey claimed it cut down pneumonia.
Not confident in the reporting.

agree-more questions than answers . I just sent tweet to Neil Cavuto that despite the report itself saying that he reported as fact something that is not and even they say about their study is “The nationwide study was not a rigorous experiment.”
and their claim that “But with 368 patients, its the largest look so far of hydroxychloroquine” is false as their are several over 1,000 see Denis Pragers interview with Dr Zelenko

“including altering the heartbeat in a way that could lead to sudden death.”
That is a complete fabrication. That is a side affect of perhaps arythomyocin.
Remember, anyone in a VA for the most part, will have underlying conditions.
From study:
“CONCLUSIONS: In this study, we found no evidence that use of hydroxychloroquine, either with or without azithromycin, reduced the risk of mechanical ventilation in patients hospitalized with Covid-19. An association of increased overall mortality was identified in patients treated with hydroxychloroquine alone. These findings highlight the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing prospective, randomized, controlled studies before widespread adoption of these drugs.”
The patients in this study were already hospitalized:
“We developed a cohort comprising patients with laboratory confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection in an inpatient setting. SARS-CoV-2 status was classified by laboratory results that were extracted from VA laboratory data. A text search for SARS-CoV-2 laboratory tests was used to query VA lab results. The study index date was defined as the date of a hospitalization with a positive SARS-CoV-2 laboratory test. Index dates range from March 9, 2020 to April 11, 2020, and patients were followed from index until hospital discharge or death”
Besides there are a lot of articles where doctors give it to numerous patients that most if not all recovered without issues.
AP is not going to tell the the entire story where the truth might be revealed, especially if it assists President Trump in any shape, form, or manner.
got tangled up editing that sentence but what I tweeted to Cavuto was that he reported as fact something that even they acknowledge about their study: The nationwide study was not a rigorous experiment.
sure this ‘study” one gets reported!!
No Z pack or zinc too?
