New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said on Tuesday night that she believes the Democratic Party has an obligation to examine a sexual assault allegation made against presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden by Tara Reade, his former aide when he served as Delaware's senator.
In response to a question about the allegations during an online conversation with The Winga group dedicated to the "professional, civic, social, and economic advancement of women through community"Ocasio-Cortez said, "I think it's legitimate to talk about these things."
"If we again want to have integrity, you can't say, you know, both believe women, support all of this, until it inconveniences you," she added.
While Biden has denied Reade's accusation, Ocasio-Cortez said that not discussing #MeToo issues in order to improve Biden's chances of beating President Donald Trump during the November election is the "exact opposite of integrity."
"I find this kind of silencing of all dissent to be a form of gaslighting....

Notice how her presumption is innocence - nothing there but has to be looked in to for the sake of appearances.
But a Reoublican would be denounced as a guilty rapist by now.
I’ve heard the term before but I’ve never researched it. Several FReepers have given me a link to a movie and to psychological references. I will watch when I have more time but I’m afraid it may stir up bad memories. Memories that I’ve tried to bury. Maybe I need to face them head on. It it takes more than two years to get over a traumatic event, I must be doing something wrong.
You forgot that “I’ll take you out behind the gym”.
Joe’s a corrupt fathead, in the proper political party for corrupt fatheads.
Is this the beginning of the left establishment turning on Biden so that they can play “the real guy” that they want to run?
Gosh I love that girl just keep her mouth open.
“Who ya gonna believe, me or yer lyin’ eyes!?”
You must be young. It’s from an old movie called “Gaslight”.
To control the other person. To make the victim more dependent on them. To cover up or misdirect from their own bad behavior or shortcomings. Lots of really sick reasons, usually.
As a Christian thats why we cling to the Word of God for truth and reassurance against liars and deceivers- manipulative scums.
Psalm 27. The Lord is my Light, and my salvation. Who shall I fear?
Remember He is our peace and not our condemnation. Take solid comfort in that truth.
That is actually called projection in psychology. It’s a psychological defence mechanism where one throws unacceptable behaviour onto someone else so one doesn’t have to deal with it. Gaslighting comes from that play/movie. I suppose the two terms could overlap.
Sloppy Joe should stop pointing his stinking finger at people. It’s especially true now that he walks around with one finger up his nose and another one up his ass.
Gas lightning is a form of propaganda where false and artificially created perceptions are passed off as reality. It has nothing to do with projection.
The BernieBros will not go quietly into that good night. ;)
Funny stuff, don’t know how you find this stuff and probably should not ask.

"Gaslighting" is just manipulation (of one person by another) taken to the extreme. And manipulation is what we all do when we negotiate with another person (which is a big part of what human interaction is).
Most big family decisions are negotiations with basically one person trying to manipulate others to get his or her way.
When one person in such a negotiation is a pathological liar or, even worse, a psychopath, the negotiation takes a turn to the dark side.
In nearly all marriages, there are secrets not told. Perhaps an affair--or string of affairs. Or a drug addiction or gambling habit.
What about a guy whose trusted wife once led a double life as a lesbian? The husband believes his wife is just what she appears to be, yet she is anything but.
The REAL bottom line of the Gaslighting movie is that you can never believe your eyes...there is always a deeper story behind superficial appearances.
Trust no one (i.e. everyone has their secrets and their agenda).;-)
And never trust the media...their entire reason for being is to "gaslight" you/us.
The lights are on but no one is at home.
Heard the term the other day, on of all shows, a rerun of the Beverly Hillbillies.
Jethro accused Jeb and Granny of trying to “gaslight” him.
