Trump calls decision on reopening US the biggest of his life
The Hill ^ | April 10, 2020 | M. Chalfant, B. Samuels

Posted on 04/11/2020 12:10:17 AM PDT by CondoleezzaProtege

President Trump on Friday described the decision on when and how to reopen the country as the most difficult one he’s had to make in his life, underscoring the careful line he is walking between concerns about the economy and public health during the coronavirus outbreak.

“I don’t know that I’ve had a bigger decision. But I’m going to surround myself with the greatest minds. Not only the greatest minds, but the greatest minds in numerous different businesses, including the business of politics and reason...”

“And we’re going to make a decision, and hopefully it’s going to be the right decision,” he continued. “I will say this. I want to get it open as soon as we can.”

...But public health experts have warned about the risk of reopening the country too early, which could set up a nightmare scenario where COVID-19 again surges in communities and overwhelms hospitals.

Even if Trump decides to relax the guidelines, the decision to reduce restrictions like stay-at-home orders and business closures would ultimately fall to states that implemented them.

To map out a potential reopening, Trump said he will unveil members of a new group Tuesday that he dubbed the “Opening Our Country Council.” The cohort is expected to include administration officials, business leaders and political figures from around the country.

Trump has repeatedly insisted that he will listen to recommendations from top health officials like Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx when making a decision on when and how to relax the guidelines.

“I listen to them about everything. I think they are actually surprised. I have great respect for these people, all of them, and others that are working for us,” Trump told reporters Friday...

“I will certainly listen,” Trump continued later. “I understand the other side of the argument very well."

We’re going to need massive testing capability in order to accomplish this. First test the workers in the least affected areas and/or most critical industries. Subject them to frequent testing. Let those areas (ie Idaho, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, etc) ramp back up first. Then move in stages to restart the economy in the rest of the country - again with frequent testing to ensure the virus doesn’t spread as people come into contact with others more and more.

As soon as he sets a Date, the Media will have a continuous “Trump” Kung Flu Death Count like we haven’t seen since the Vietnam War.

The term Blood on his Hands will be all the rage.

Even though they have “Dr” in front of thier name, some in my area have closed down, saying they can’t do social distancing.

“Texas Governor plans to sign an executive order next week to reopen the state’s economy. This is sending shock waves thru the health care tyrants network and could be the path forward out of this nightmare these medical experts have helped to create.”

Trying to figure out how the barber's going to trim my beard with my N-95 mask on.

You'll have to put it on the end of a snorkel.

The other reason is because work gives meaning to so many people, even those who don’t enjoy their work very much. People have to have something that provides self-worth.

The problem isn't that Trump listens to recommendations from Fauci and Birx, it's when he allows them to set policy that is Trump's great failure ... his only significant failure during all of this.

Seek their knowledge but don't trust their "wisdom" for a hot second ... they have no more real-world wisdom than anyone else ... and likely less than most.

That got us into the current mess, Mr President.

Even if Trump decides to relax the guidelines, the decision to reduce restrictions like stay-at-home orders and business closures would ultimately fall to states that implemented them.

Look, if Cuomo or Whitmer are going to insist on crushing their state economies, even as states like Texas and Wyoming open up and get back to or remain at work, that is their problem

To map out a potential reopening, Trump said he will unveil members of a new group Tuesday that he dubbed the “Opening Our Country Council.” The cohort is expected to include administration officials, business leaders and political figures from around the country.

As long as they keep the terrible twins, Fauci and Birx out of it that's fine.

To: Does so

The MSN won’t do it. The governors and news media need to get absolutely swamped with letters, messages, phone calls, etc. about requests, they need to be nagged constantly that it has to happen.

My post and concern is mostly for the elderly for which this virus is often a death sentence.

EVERYTHING that we 'elderly' get is a likely death sentence.

Most of us have made plans for when that eventuality finals occurs.

If anyone; old or young; has NOT made those plans, then TOMORROW would be a REALLY good time to do so!

If you make it that far!

Better do it right after you read this.

John 6:28-29

Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
