White House trade adviser Peter Navarro Monday confirmed reports of a heated argument between himself and Dr. Anthony Fauci over the weekend concerning the use of hydroxychloroquine while continuing to push for the use of the drug in the fight against COVID-19.
"If we didn't have disagreement or debate in the Trump administration, this administration would not be as strong as it is," Navarro told CNN's "New Day" host John Berman. He also confirmed the argument in a separate Fox News interview.
"Let me focus on the issue at hand," Navarro told Berman. "Does hydroxychloroquine work? That was the subject in the task force meeting this Saturday."
At the end of the day, FEMA has 29 million tablets of the drug in a warehouse, and the White House task force agreed unanimously that FEMA would start surging them into the nation's "hot zones."
Navarro added that in the New York hospitals' system, "virtually every patient" with COVID-19 symptoms is given a cycle of hydroxychloroquine.
Navarro had brought several studies to the meeting, reports Axios, but Fauci argued that they contained anecdotal, not scientific evidence.
"There are now numerous scientific studies that indicate potential efficacy," Navarro argued on Monday, adding that he'd let Fauci speak for himself, "but I'll have two words for you. Second opinion."
"What are your qualifications to weigh in on medicines more than Dr. Anthony Fauci?" Berman replied. "Why should we listen to you and not Dr. Fauci?"
Navarro suggested that CNN bring in other doctors who can speak more about the benefits of the drug, but that his own qualifications are that he is a "social scientist" with a PhD and he understands "how to read statistical studies."

I’m sure stuff like this happens in closed door White House meetings all the time.
Navarro and Fauci are obviously at polar opposites on this issue. And that’s OK. It’s counterproductive to fill your task force with a bunch of yes men.
Feuding is fine. IMHO Just keep it private to not give the corrupt media anything to feed on.
Clearly Tom Wolf believes that cheesesteaks are essential to maintaining human life.
He’s probably right about that one.
I like the cut of Navarro’s jib, metaphorically speaking.
Fauci sets off my Democrat Weasel alarm.
Uh oh. The Deep-State Democrat Monica Media has chosen the wrong hill to die on. Again.
Such an important issue, and the story is “chaos in the Trump administration.” There is no reason Fauci can’t just say that he is bound to rely on proven facts, but, until the facts are in, lock, stock and barrel, the promising new approaches should be considered. And Navarro can aggressively suggest just that.
Indeed. This debate isn't about examining a particular patient and prescribing a particular treatment -- I would want a doctor to do that. Dr. Fauci might do.
But we're really looking at statistical outcomes from around the world, gathered by people who are actively working this issue. I don't need a doctor to interpret that. I need someone good with statistics.
I will also not that the "author" here has decided to "use quotes" in a rather "condescending" way.
Good! Im glad that Navarro put Fauci down a peg..seriously sick of that guy..Fauci has his own agenda, for him having a cheap cure would not be beneficial to big pharma..EVERYONE should be getting the drug cocktail, hydroxy does not work on its own, mix it with zinc and its very effective
President Fauci is NOT the head of the FDA. He does NOT have approval over any drug. Why he’s allowed to assume this kind of veto power is beyond me.
President Fauci needs to get yanked off the stage!!!
P.s. please sign the petition:
If it’s not effective, why did India just ban its export?
That's Billy Boy Gates talking through his puppet Fauci.
These guys are starting to sound like Jeb Bush Could they read this please? I’m more worried about them understanding this.
Dr. Anthony Fauci..is iyi...
It is his way or the highway..

Defining the Intellectual Yet Idiot
You can read Talebs satirical piece, but heres my quick summary of the characteristics of IYIs:
Education: Almost always attend elite universities, such as the Ivy League or Oxbridge. NOTE: Most students at these schools are not IYIs, but a decent percentage qualify.
Industries: Tend to have experience mostly in academia, the government, think tanks, and the mainstream media.
Skin in the Game: None. They advocate for or against policies from which they never feel the negative effects, making such advocacy meaningless.
Media: Like The New Yorker and TED talks (ugh).
And, most importantly, the IYI never deadlifts (more on why thats important).

Simply, in most countries, the governments role is between five and ten times what it was a century ago (expressed in percentage of GDP). The IYI seems ubiquitous in our lives but is still a small minority and is rarely seen outside specialized outlets, think tanks, the media, and universities most people have proper jobs and there are not many openings for the IYI.
And they have on skin in the game..
Wow, some wires crossed here today.
My post to a thread about a cheesesteak joint in Philly donating to nurses and first responders somehow ended up here.
why don’t they each pick 50 real sick patients, Fauci can give them love and understanding while Navarro gives them Hydroxychloriquen, let’s see what happens on LIVE TV!!
They really do hope it fails and people die. Fauci does too, I think, based on how hard he’s fighting it with absoluely no evidence, anecdotal or scientific, that it’s bad.
A Jim’s cheesesteak can cure a lot of things.
