Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly addressed the crew of the USS Theodore Roosevelt on Monday to defend his decision to fire the aircraft carriers commander, Capt. Brett Crozier, who wrote a memo last week demanding more urgent action to address an outbreak of coronavirus.
According to a recording of the address and descriptions by relatives of crew members and by U.S. officials, Mr. Modly delivered the remarks to the crew of the ship, which is now docked in Guam as crew members undergo a quarantine because of the Covid-19 outbreak. More than 150 of the approximately 5,000 members of the crew have tested positive.
The remarks, over the vessels public address system, were tinged with profanity, according to the recording and the descriptions of the remarks, with Mr. Modly saying that sailors were expected to keep their shit together and take care of each other. At another point, Mr. Modly, addressing fears over the virus, said: If the ship was in combat and there were hypersonic missiles coming at it, youd be pretty f------ scared too.
Many crew members on the Roosevelt were critical of the Navys decision to fire Capt. Crozier, who drew cheers and applause from sailors as he walked off the ships gangplank last week for the last time. President Trump has backed the decision to fire the commander.
But Mr. Modly, referring to Capt. Crozier in his remarks Monday, said: If he didnt think, in my opinion, that this information wasnt going to get out into the public, in this information age we live in, then he was either too naive or too stupid to be a commanding officer of a ship like this.
The alternative is he did this on purpose, which is a serious violation of military law, he said.

You probably had an ass chewing coming for something else anyway. Now, get out of here.
Well...did ya’?
The Navy was already working on the problem. They were doing it quietly so as not to alert our enemies that one of the most powerful ships in the world was possibly not operational and unable to carry out its mission.
It is a joke and melodramatic to say the captain saved his crew.
He did not follow the rules but saved his crew.
His job is the mission. He either does what he has to do to get on with the mission or he, on his own authority takes the ship out of service by certifying that it is not up to the mission. Those were his choices.
Probably.
thank you for your service. The CO has no business telling the SF Chronicle what his crew had for dinner...let alone broadcasting the readiness of his ship.
FWIW.. I suppose Im keeping an open mind that he did not send out that email (his email address was hijacked or whatever), but I have not heard that he has neither denied nor confirmed any of this (I could have missed it).
Listen up fucktards!............................................And FUCK EVERYONE OF YOU LITTLE MONKEY FUCKERS WHO CANT HANDLE STRAIGHT TALK< GO CRY ME A RIVER YOU BED WETTING SHITS!!
There are a great many examples of eloquence. Some are high and prosey and moving and some are short and straight to the point. Bingo, Chief!
Reminds one of the “crew support” on the HMS Bounty of the exec..Fletcher Christian, wanting to stay in Tahiti and screw pagan Polynesian chickees and drink their homebrew naked on the beach vs. his CO. A mutiny, which was brought to trial as a result of the amazing nautical skills of Captain Bligh, surviving, and several of the mutineers hanged.
All that is left of those sorry bastards-— is on Pitcairn, Is. descendants of Christian, where they left the hulk of the Bounty burning to the waterline.
Wondering what would the cheering millennial sailors reaction be— to an exposed full-on attack while docked from an electric chi-com suicidal sub (which assuredly would be destroyed in rapid fashion by their fellow Strike Group escort, still around)? Kind of what Modly’s words (if true, from yet another leak... by someone on the Roosevelt) were. Would they cheer a CO that did that, over a panic of his own generation. This is what happens in the obamaumao derived continuation of the shite visited on our Navy particularly, from Patsy Schroeder and Tail hook (on the Air Wing side), and sex integration at USNA and shipboard. Bearing no discipline— mimicking the civilian world-— a cruise ship with nuclear weapons—riiight!
Something else: Crozier was removed from command by his immediate superior after chain of command conference calls (not the idiocy the idiot press reports) RDML Stuart Baker, the Commander of the Strike Group 9— the Strike Group consisting of the Roosevelt, the Air Wing assigned to Roosevelt and Air Wing Commander, USS Bunker Hill,USS Cape St. George, and units from Desron 23 (Destroyer Squadron 23). Coincidentally, Chief of Staff to RDML Baker, is 4 striper full Captain Steve Budde (aboard the carrier, and twice former Capt. of two CGs, Guided missile cruiser, including USS Cape St. George). The Roosevelt being the Flagship of Strike Group 9.
The CNO’s ordered report of all comms, said “letter” etc.- is due today. NIS and DIA have been on this.
A good read of the comments to this USNI article is worth the time vs. stupid crap from SanFran Nan’s pals at the Chronicle:

Very surprised at the number of Crozier apologists in those comments.
The media would love to see a mutiny on a CVN and blame it on Trump.
And I you Captain!
I took an ass chewing one time for something I didnt do.
“I’m not saying you did it, I blaming you.”
Well, pretty evident they are civilians, or maybe leftie civilian contractors. The one to read— sounds like a JAG lawyer— is the dude named TMark or something.
Very compelling expose of what this ship’s CO (who is from helicopter to f-18 transition to nuc power school to capt. of USS Blue Ridge (and pal of former SecNav Spencer btw), exec officer of the USS Reagan to ship command)... ie. rather different than say the number of ship commands— at sea, a lot of the Chief of Staff to RDML Baker.... Captain Budde,:

That is, vs. the rather limited at sea ship command (mostly AirWing, Air, and land based Air command):

Thanks for those links
I can’t help but laugh. Those were the good old days. Navy talk can be plenty salty - more so than what this guy said.
Lt Blighs (I think he was a Lt during the ordeal?) amazing navigational skills to make it from BF Nowhere to safety is overshadowed by Christians charm. It has been awhile since I researched it all, but it was a mini obsession of mine for a while. Christians family definitely had better PR. :)
Colonel.....is that you?
right on, Chief!
“Mr. Modly graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science, with distinction.”
I enlisted in the Army in 1983. It was the heat of the cold war with the USSR. Now, we are in a cold war with China, Moldy knew what was at stake in 1983 when he graduated the USNA and he damn sure knows what is at stake now.
Good riddance to Crozier. Maybe at onetime he was a good CO, if so, it is clear he has lost his nerve. Accordingly, he has lost his command.
