There are few places in this nation safer from the coronavirus than seclusion in ones vehicle. While driving, we are neither likely to contract the disease nor spread it to others. But in Pennsylvania, the spirit of caution has been replaced by authoritarianism and overt abuse of power as law enforcement officers have been ordered to ticket people simply for driving without an essential purpose.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) took great exception to news of this degree of enforcement.
politicians (and it seems to be only Dems doing this, eg Wolf in PA, DeBlasio in NYC, Cooper in NC), protect public safety, but WE DONT LIVE IN A POLICE STATE. Resist authoritarianism & dont abuse power. Driving a car alone is not a public health threat.
understandable considering the lockdowns. People do not like to feel as if theyre prisoners, even in our own homes. She was putting nobody at risk, including herself, yet she was pulled over and ticketed. Thats not the American way. At least it shouldnt be.
Some would say we should wait until after the coronavirus crisis before we move forward. That would be a tremendous mistake for two reasons. First, trying to pry newfound power from authoritarian progressives is like trying to take a bone from a hungry rottweiler. Second, the longer the people are exposed to draconian policies, the more normalized it becomes. We cannot afford to wait to defend our rights.
There is a right way and wrong way to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. While the left is quick to say we must listen to doctors and follow the science, they are very selective about which doctors and what science were supposed to follow. Anyone who calls for locking the entire nation down with an iron fist is popular

Maybe he is talking about his “state of mind?” In Tennesse if we are out on the road, we get pulled over. Groceries only. F’ing insane.
Ted is king of the old stale month old sound-bite.
Yup. see tag below
I wasn't aware it was even a question anymore.
If you'd really like to be thoroughly disgusted. See this post by a fellow freeper. He's practically salivating at getting to kill American citizens.
“WE DONT LIVE IN A POLICE STATE”?
Stay indoors.
No groupings of more then 10?
stop free speech?\
???
Why does a Christian college have a video like that? /s
One of my favorites.
Oh dear God grow the freak up.
This is the battle you choose?
I live close to east Texas and it’s nothing of the sort here. It’s not a texas thing, it’s a local gov’t thing. If they don’t like it feel free to vote out the sheriff next time.
Exactly! 100%!
So, exactly when is the ‘police state’ a thing? I would argue that this country started becoming a police state as early as 1801 with John Adams appointing the midnight judges. What his appointments were all about was power. He wanted to stack the courts with his cronies to control government for the long term and he knew stacking the court would lead to that end.
That truism today is why Presidential court appointments are seen as so critical. It is also why Dingy Harry Reid made such a mistake with his nuclear option a few years ago when he changed Senate rules to a simple majority for court appointments. President Trump and the Turtle are now beating the democrats over the head on that one.
The police state is always lurking and demanding to control the masses. So, yes, we sadly are in a police state, folks. This police state is just not as bad of a police state as say Cuba has to suffer with right now or the police state that was the Soviet Union with the KGB taking people away in the middle of the night.
Some people might call the police state we are living in the “nanny” state but that is still a police state none-the-less.
JoMa
Not the same in my part of Texas. We spent yesterday on a multi-county bluebonnet drive.
I’m glad you find enough to conclude Sen. Cruz is one of the good guys, You don’t actually say you think he meets the “natural born citizen” requirement for President, but you seem to infer it. Just because I don’t think it possible that Sen. Cruz is eligible to serve as President of the United States, do you include me as one of those FReepers who have, as you call it, a hard on for Cruz?
