I wish Governor Newsom would do something so all these Californians would quit coming to TX.

When no actual dollars ever change hands, why should you have to 'print' anything?

CA has balanced their budget before using "accounting tricks" and shady transfers between accounts - they didn't cut spending, didn't increase taxes, didn't print any money. It can be done, because they've done it already.

“Actually, it is perfectly LEGAL for American states, and any banks, and even private individuals to print their OWN money.”

You’re wrong about the States. Go read the Constitution.

yes and no.
in the last Great Depression, Californicators figured out how to make money when they needed it:

so we are sure they’ll figure it out again with this new mandated Depression. After all, the clams are still there..

California will be fine as long as people accept their checks and credit cards.

If my state could print money you would need a pickup full of cash to buy a loaf of bread.

“No state and no city can print money”

Actually, the largest currency printers in the world, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing prepares all of the paper money for the U.S. at facilities in Washington, D.C., and in Fort Worth, Texas which has been in operation since late 1990. It is monitored by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing but the work is done in Texas.

Coin, Stamps, commemorative coins, and other things, are done in places like Philadelphia, Fort Knox, West Point, Denver, San Francisco and a few others. But they are all federally controlled.

They do have some work done in D.C., but the bulk is done outside the territory. The D.C.buildings are located between 14th and 15th Streets SW. That location was originally constructed in 1914.

“I predict that states will, to the extent possible, issue bonds to get the cash to balalnce their budgets.

How these bond issues are received in the financial markets is another story. But it will be politically difficult to impose big tax increases. So the path of least resistance will.be to sell bonds, and kick the can down the road.”

The Fed has already announced that it will buy state government bonds. This is essentially monetizing any new California debt.

“States printed their own money during the depression.”

I’ve never heard that but, in any case, I doubt that state money was legal tender.

What Newsom needs to do is two basic things. 1. He needs to give the farmers of the central valley of Calif. all the water they want and/or need. Farming is still going on, in spite of the 'lockdown.' The farmers need water, and lots of crops could help get the state back on its feet, at least a bit, financially. 2. He needs to cancel AB5 and let people work, doing what they can and want to do, without any gvt. interference. (For non-CA Freepers, AB5 was this horrendous law that stops people from doing gig work unless they're a registered employee of the company they're doing the gig for. It has decimated the arts and music industries, made it harder to get Uber, and puts limits on writers and so forth. It's a stupid law. There was a push to pass another law that would repeal it, but guess what? The insect Dem who put it forth in the first place is chaircreature of the committee that decides what bills go forward in the state legislature!) Seriously, Newsom can come out of this looking like a *real* governor if he lets people work. But I'm not holding my breath.
