Terrified by the coronavirus, Liz and Ken Frydman fled their apartment in Manhattan for the relative safety of their country house in Connecticut. Then the heating system failed, and they called the local fuel company. Oh, you guys are from New York, the manager said. The Frydmans assured him their family was virus-free. But the manager agreed to send someone only after they promised that the furnace could be accessed through a cellar door, without entering the main house. My workers are very leery of New Yorkers, he said. In the fickle calculus of what defines fashionable, New Yorkers have always been a constant, the seen-it-all sophisticates whose idea of normalcy includes riding an impossibly overcrowded subway and inhabiting a ridiculously overpriced apartment.
But now Americas largest city is pandemic central, and New Yorkers have become the face of the fearsome infection virtual pariahs whose potential arrival has spurred anxious demands for roadblocks up and down the East Coast.

Yep, Cuomo and his thugs thought this might be a free pass to him becoming the Dems’ Potus candidate this year.
Now it is turning into a cluster ****,and now, he has a grenade between his knees with a pulled pin.
His elite former backers are fleeing NY like panicked elite trash, and no one wants them as neighbors. They will not have open wallets for him nor warm feelings after this.
I have an old friend and colleague who went to NYC in early early March for a day ... one day ... to celebrate his son’s birthday and is now on a ventilator and getting dialysis because of the virus he contracted there. He’s 50.
So it’s a shame for New Yorkers but for now I don’t want them around me. Sorry.
Sorry to hear about your friend, and out here in California, we don’t want CV carriers from Louisiana, NYC, Chicago, LA,SF and Seattle.
NYC has nine million people in it, and if this virus was easy to catch after spending a day there, I think we'd be reading about far more NYers themselves coming down with it.
(There is an argument to be made, of course, that spending years in NYC has raised one's immunity to atmospheric levels, but I don't know if this has ever been scientifically tested, even as it may certainly explain the NYer leaving town just fine and everyone else he crosses paths with coming down with it.)
New York City liberals have been pariahs since the start of our Revolutionary war, and it took a little virus bug to make people aware that NY liberals are scum.
I know this from news stories, I haven't spoken to the family. It's pretty shocking that he went from slight symptoms to ventilator very suddenly. He went to a clinic when he had mild symptoms and called his wife to tell her they were taking him straight to a hospital. And that was the last she heard from him, he went downhill fast. She also isn't allowed to see him because he's in literal lockdown.
So since we're peers that gives me pause. Neither of us is 80+ or in apparent ill health. All the stats say this shouldn't have happened to him. And yet...
It’s the fearmongering news media, led by the Washington Post, that is stigmatizing New Yorkers, not the virus.
Funny how these coastal elites sneered at flyover country. Now, they’re fleeing there.
We are hours from NYC, but hey, since the rest of the country seems to think that NYS is one big suburb of NYC, it hardly matters what the facts are.
Meanwhile, Ripley, NY is a 7 hour drive and only 400 miles if you take a shortcut through PA. Champlain, NY is only 5 hours north, and 330 miles.
Isn't that AOC's hometown?
.
Cuomo’s fault?
They gotta get to their safe space now. Is this The beginning of the locusts zombies from the cities?
Being a Demonicrat should stigmatize a New Yorker, or anyone from another city or state.
Westchester County
Isn’t that AOC’s hometown?
Oh, the horror./sarc
We don’t want them in Louisiana either!
No Doubt. This story is actually fairly funny in a way.
The coronavirus outbreak has exploded in New York City. And everyone has gone all-in on the cover-up.
Except for the elites, who fled from the city to safer areas for now.
