A Venezuelan navy ship fired shots at a German-owned cruise ship on March 30 and rammed into the passenger vessel, leading to the sinking of the warship in the Caribbean.

The Iranian regime-allied Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro accused the captain of the RCGS RESOLUTE cruise ship of “terrorism and piracy" and sought to force the ship into a new direction on the high seas. The cruise ship, which had no passengers on board and was flying under a Portuguese flag, has a reinforced hull that enables it to sail through ice water.

“So what’s tonight’s entertainment on this ship?”

“We’re going to sink a Venezuelan warship.”

“Cool! That’s way better than another magic show!”

Not really a frigate.

More along the lines of one of our old Hamilton Class Coast Guard cutters as far as armament goes.

Germany as usual will do nothing other than useless diplomatic protest.

Why bother, the warship was too busy sinking.

The old British Navy knew how to avoid that sort of thing. No one got rich off a sunken prize.

Good to see someone besides the U.S. Navy ramming into other ships...

At least the Venezuelans admitted it was intentional... So they get only half-credit for incompetence... So we're still higher on the naval incompetence scale than they are...

...but it seems to be a legit naval gun in a real turret. Or was, since it got sunk.
= = =

Lots of folks are losing their guns in boating accidents these days.

During WWI the Germans hanged the captain of a merchantman, Charles Fryatt, who rammed the submarine that was attacking him. They claimed that civilians who fought their soldiers/sailors were Francs-tireurs. So the captain of the RCGS Resoulute better hope Venezuela never get its hands on him.

Karma. What the heck was the warship captain thinking? Firing on or ramming a civilian vessel is an act of war.

If they want war it would be over quickly. Of course things may be so bad in that country that an occupation army might at least get food distributed and medical supplies delivered.

I think even if this is an act of war it won’t trigger article V because it happened south of the Tropic of Cancer.

Article VI:

For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:

on the territory of any of the Parties in Europe or North America, on the Algerian Departments of France 2, on the territory of Turkey or on the Islands under the jurisdiction of any of the Parties in the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer;

on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over these territories or any other area in Europe in which occupation forces of any of the Parties were stationed on the date when the Treaty entered into force or the Mediterranean Sea or ***the North Atlantic area north of the Tropic of Cancer***.

Isn’t this an act of war?
Considering our relationship - or lack thereof - w/ the Maduro regime, I’d think President Trump would consider it an act of piracy. Conducted under what we consider false color of national sovereignty.

The government of Germany’s mileage, however, may vary.
I wonder if they’ll sue for the damage to the paint on the cruise ship . . .

Why was a German made cruise ship, flying a Portugal flag, in the waters near Venezuela with NO passengers?

Some kind of drug running deal?

Cruise ship may not have any big naval guns, but I bet the security team has access to small arms.
My bet is they are a terrorist target and have some small arms onboard.
