MILAN—In the town of Coccaglio, an hour’s drive east of here, the local nursing home lost over a third of its residents in March. None of the 24 people who died there were tested for the new coronavirus. Nor were the 38 people who died in another nursing home in the nearby town of Lodi.
These aren’t isolated incidents. Italy’s official death toll from the virus stands at 13,155, the most of any country in the world. But that number tells only part of the story because many people who die from the virus don’t make it to the hospital and are never tested.
In the areas worst hit by the pandemic, Italy is undercounting thousands of deaths caused by the virus, a Wall Street Journal analysis shows, indicating that the pandemic’s human toll may end up being much greater, and infections far more widespread, than official data indicate.

The real number of deaths is probably at least double the official count of 2,060 in March for Bergamo and 1,278 for Brescia since the outbreak began in late February, according to interviews with local officials, doctors and funeral-service providers and comparisons with the numbers of deaths from past years.

Italy has been including deaths due to other causes as Corona deaths. Opposite is true to this article.

This is the amusing side of the Italian story. If you had a heart-attack and died....they applied the virus-test on the body, and if positive....listed your death as Corona (rather than the heart-attack).
Same deal if you had a car accident, and they brought your body for an autopsy. A positive meant that you were a Corona-death member.
Pretty ridiculous, if you ask me. Germany refused to play the game....so their death-rate is still around .8-to-1 percent.
Our approach to deal with this plague was highly influenced by the death and sickness due to the CCWVI ( Chinese Communist Wuhan Virus) reports coming out of Italy.
Most Americans including this one were not aware that that the Italian socialist government had actually allowed the Chinese communists to purchase thus remove Italian ownership of a large segment of their fashion industry producers. Then replace the Italians working at those companies taken over by the Chinese and have them manned by thousands of Chinese nationals allowed to be brought in to work there.
Those statistics being reported always indicated the casualties were aged Italians no focus was permitted on China or even if the victims were from China and the emphasis was on the speed of contagion. While doing so also ignored the direct connection those producers have with the Chinese Communist government which owns them.
It’s not ridiculous if it’s true and you’re Italy.

Probably both are true.
Some where coronavirus present, but not the deciding factor included and some where coronavirus was the underlying cause but not tested for included.
Italy is not counting the nursing home deaths.
As for patients with a comorbidity, sometimes a secondary illness (COVID19) can kill you while you are being treated for another illness.
Reckon any of our governors in the USA would be tempted to fluff their numbers in hope of more money from Uncle Sugar?
I wouldn’t be surprised. There ought to be a standardized way to count. Use of immediate and/or underlying cause on a death certificate, for example.
I’ve read that some deaths were on the records twice and may be a reason for the higher numbers there - supposedly record keeping issues between villages & cities, etc.

The doctor interviewd for this article debunked that. They don’t test the dead.
Lots of lies being told to support agendas. Italy needs an infusion of EU cash and likely sees this crisis as a way to get it. Same story in Spain. Link below discusses the hype in Britain. The virus is real, the death forecast rates are bogus.

What about under testing and the real number of current virus infections?
I’m hearing of people in the US who have all the symptoms but are not being tested because they are not sick enough.
If deaths are probably double then the infection numbers are at least double, bringing the percentage of deaths down.
