Currently, there is no known cure for the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the globe, but one possible remedy, the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine, has received increased attention in recent weeks. A new study aims to confirm whether or not that attention is warranted.
The study, which will be conducted by the University of Washington in conjunction with New York University, looks to enroll 2,000 people who are "close contacts of persons with confirmed or pending COVID-19 diagnoses," according to a statement announcing the study.
"We currently dont know if hydroxychloroquine works, but we will learn in as short a timeframe as possible what the outcome is, principal investigator Ruanne Barnabas said in the statement.
Participants in the eight-week study will be randomly assigned to take the antimalarial drug, which has been in use since the early 1950s, or a placebo over two weeks. Nasal swab samples will be collected and tested daily to confirm new COVID-19 infections across the two groups.
"Our goal is to stop transmission of COVID-19 in the community, Barnabas added.
"Currently, there is no proven way to prevent COVID-19 after being exposed," added co-principal investigator and NYU assistant professor Anna Bershteyn. "If hydroxychloroquine provides protection, then it could be an essential tool for fighting this pandemic. If it doesn't, then people should avoid unnecessary risks from taking the drug.
The study, which aims to finish in the early summer, received funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Wellcome Trust, and Mastercard.

PREVENT is the important word in that headline.
Ask Fredo.
Is this the only trail in NY? Limited to NY city.
No need. The information is available right now, and getting better by the day. What has happened to the folks who were on it before all this? This information IS KNOWN to someone. Why arent they sharing it?
Can aquarium cleaner help stop COVID-19?
Inconclusive, data to date is 50-50.
A friend of mine talked with a physician about hydroxychloroquine, and he said that ordinarily cells infected with Covid-19 won’t allow Zinc in, which would allow the cell to destroy the Covid-19, while using hydroxychloroquine enables the Zinc to get in....allowing the body to cure itself. Apparently treatments of hydroxychloroquine include Zinc supplements as well...
Democrats in the bureaucracy will drag this out forever.
There is no cure? I suppose so if you cherry pick facts. Lupus people have taken the drugs and have been said to have lower incidents of the virus. Hydroxychloroquine is also used for arthritis. What is the infection rate of infection to them. I think they are playing with the definitions. The county I live in said they have one death form corona virus while the state of Colorado say there are 4 in this county. Colorado also counts many with other viruses as positive for corona and even people exposed to regular flu are counted positive for corona. I really can not trust anyone.

here is the thread from last night from a different article looking at this study

Call me crazy but I have been drinking Tonic water for a month now and taking zinc. I know it is a very small amount of Quinine but it won’t kill me either. It tastes horrible and I can’t believe people choose to drink it with gin for pleasure. I mix it with Emergen-C and it is a little better.
I also have one Z-Pak, wish I had More.
Have they mined through the data of those having COVID to see how many were being treated with hydroxychloroquine for Lupus?
I read somewhere that it was near zero corona-virus infection of such patients that led to trying the drug in the first place. It was a secondary article saying, “...according to some Chinese doctors...”. But I haven’t seen the source. Also, although I’ve seen interviews with French Doctor Didier Raoult, about his HCQ/Z-pack protocol, I don’t remember what motivated him to come up with it in the first place.
The $20 Solution to Coronavirus: Anecdotal Evidence Is a Life-Saver

Oh, did I mention that there is also anecdotal evidence that lupus patients who are being treated with HCQ have an almost nonexistent incidence of COVID-19 infections, as do people living in Africa where HCQ tablets are handed out like Pez to prevent malaria?
I dont know how accurate it is, but its interesting.
One avenue they are looking at is minimizing the symptoms - the body’s immune systems goes into overdrive, and kills the victim. If they can minimize that they can save lives.
That route, however, does nothing on the preventative side.
You won’t get accurate #’s out of Africa.
The point I keep making is there is no reason for us to be seeking desperately all over the globe for Easter Eggs that suggest. Its becoming embarrassing.
