You are such an idiot.

That was the recitation of the regional conference call I listen to at the beginning of last week from a hospital in the NY metro area.

In your 66 years you should have learned to listen and read before spouting off your bullshit. No wonder you couldn’t keep your job.

You are probably still working.

Day late—dollar short. Horses—barn doors. Daytona 500 weekend. Mardi Gras travelers. Spring Break week...

Opinions vary. You may want to read my posts better too. I have no idea where you came to the conclusion I had trouble keeping some job.

I’m sorry I struck a nerve, but so far I’m only seeing ad-hominem attack. What, specifically, have I said to give you the opinion you have?

Thank you for that. I’ve been wanting that question to be answered.

BTW, I thought you were using a hypothetical. This ondesy twesey stuff is not relevant to the area where I live, where we only have a few deaths (8 so far).

I see New York as another country, as I do Washington state, which is why I moved, 9 years ago, from Seattle to acreage in Kentucky. we’re fine here. You guys fix your problem and we’ll fix our meth problem.

“Our dedicated professionals of the NORAD and NORTHCOM command and control watch have left their homes, said goodbye to their families, and are isolated from everyone to ensure they can stand the watch each and every day to defend our homeland,”

All first responders should be living at work and everyone else should be home. Period. No exceptions for 21 days.

Yes, UV does kill the Wuhan Virus, and most other viruses. I just Amazon-ordered a UV-C sterilizer to sterilize my N95 masks. It is supposed to arrive in early May.

Actually, your sarcasm is perfect. That IS true, and maybe COVID-19 would NOT have been TEOTWAWKI had we embraced/had forced upon us this shutdown. "I'll take social distancing and destroying the service sector for $2 trillion, Alex" is where we are.

But then again, maybe not. There's the rub.

I'll come right out and say it: Many people who think this is overkill are REALLY saying that it is economically rational to let coronavirus run rampant and kill 30,000-60,000 extra Americans because the drop in GDP and $2t in spending isn't worth it. In effect, they're putting a price tag on life. Now, that happens often - military strategists do it, product safety people do it, it happens. But we often don't talk about it in the open. But here we are.

In turn, many of the "flatten the curve" crowd don't care about cost..."if quarantine saves the life of one child, it was worth it..." they may say. And yea, I can get behind that to a large degree. But witness the cost...not just in dollar terms but stress, etc...and the baby boom we will see in the fourth quarter globally.

There are costs everywhere. Coronavirus has put the "Death Panels" front and center. Welcome to socialized medicine.

EGYPT

I think most suspected this a while back when so many cases worldwide were originating from Egypt:

Coronavirus and cover-up: Egypt’s two-fronted war
A high-ranking military officer tells MEE the outbreak is much wider spread than the government admits - or is prepared to handle
By Amr Khalifa
Published date: 29 March 2020 12:18 UTC | Last update: 5 hours 52 min ago

For weeks, suspicions have abounded that the Egyptian government has not been open about the extent of the country’s Covid-19 outbreak.

Multiple events this past week, including the deaths of two senior military leaders and now the leak of a military document suggesting that the virus is more widespread than previously disclosed, have only entrenched that view.

When Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi finally emerged from a long public absence on Sunday, he stressed that his government was dealing with the crisis with full transparency and encouraged Egyptians to stay at home for two weeks.

“We don’t want the crisis to hit larger numbers,” he said during the same TV address.

The government did not implement a lockdown, perhaps being savvy enough to recognise the economic hardship that would entail for millions even if it would have made more sense from a public health standpoint. You can’t employ social distancing only 50 percent of the time

My friend's parents friends have caught it from being on a group trip to Egypt. They came home and got a call from someone (not sure who) to ask if they were the people on XYZ trip to Egypt. They were then told, they were exposed and to self isolate.

Within a few days, I guess he got sick. He's in the hospital in rough shape. She's home and now sick but as of Friday was not in the hospital. Both in their early 70s.

“For all we know, only a fraction of those that have the virus are even tested, and then only because they are showing significant symptoms.”

Actually, we have an entire population that was tested. Everybody aboard the Diamond Princess was tested during and after the outbreak. So we know pretty accurately the distribution of symptom severity.

Right now in NYC only the serious and critical cases are being counted, but that is due to process, not lack of cases. It does pollute the data from NYC quite a bit. What ever the case count in NYC, assume it is 20% of the actual cases (active cases, not incubating cases).

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said in a national TV interview that Maryland would look “a lot more like New York” by Easter.

Metro has announced further cuts to bus and rail service for the coming workweek.

A nursing home in Mt. Airy, Maryland, has been hit with an outbreak of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, with 66 residents testing positive. The county health officer announced Sunday that one resident, a man in his 90s, has died.
