The clamor for a swift return to normal has started to pick up in recent days - particularly in the right-wing media ecosystem.
That's come as President Donald Trump has suggested that he could quickly move to change his administration's guidelines in dealing with the coronavirus outbreak in hope of returning some people to work in less than three weeks and ending the stock market slide.
No example drew more attention than an interview that Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, a Republican, gave Monday night on Fox News, in which he suggested that some elderly Americans - the group most at risk of death from COVID-19 - should be willing to sacrifice their lives so the economy can gain steam.
"No one reached out to me and said, 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for its children and grandchildren?' And if that is the exchange, I'm all in," said Patrick, 70.
Meanwhile, Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., one of Trump's closest congressional allies, tweeted Monday: "Try running an economy with major hospitals overflowing, doctors and nurses forced to stop treating some because they can't help all, and every moment of gut-wrenching medical chaos being played out in our living rooms, on TV, on social media, and shown all around the world."
"There is no functioning economy unless we control the virus," he added.
For his part, Cuomo did suggest that a strategy in which some elements of the shutdown are loosened - with less vulnerable people returning to work - may be possible in the coming weeks if both the public health and economic approaches are "done intelligently."

But the unborn are, right? Even a hypocrite should see the nonsense in that statement.
In another week or so, lots of people will HAVE to go back out as they run low on groceries. whats to keep the virus from spreading at that point?
We cant hide from this forever.
What’s even more astonishing is they s went along after they witnessed these same people multiple attempts to take out President Trump by any means.
stockholm syndrome?
True that.
Or that the snarky FRpers go into personal attacks. Really hurts this site.
Thank you
Trump’s target date is more than two weeks out. What is the problem with this? And, yes, if it turns out that more quarantine is needed, do it. But it is right and meaningful to try and put a return-to-work date on everything. Trump needs to explain this this way!!!
People don’t understand leadership. Trump set a BHAG. Big Hairy Audacious Goal. Examples
Land a man on the moon before 1970 (7 years)
Be in Germany by mid 1945
It is so audacious that it makes your crew re-think everything. May not hit the goal, but ...
I learned it from Dr. Bose
I am in the virus target of 80 with a cardiac history. I’ll take my chances and have before I stay hunkered down for Cuomo’s time schedule. 2 weeks is fine but 2 months will kill the economy for years to come, and my retirement will be devastated,
Societies act in the interest of the entire society NOT individuals.
Physical distancing signals social rejection of one’s fellow man. Yet those of us who have most eagerly adopted the so-called “social distancing” regime are persuaded that they are bestowing a gift on those from whom they distance themselves. Hence they regard those of us who reject so-called “social distancing” as ungrateful jerks. How does this awkward social situation get resolved after the return of normal life? Virtue signalers have found a new cudgel with which to beat us over the head. How likely are they to agree to disarm themselves? Seems like it wouldn’t happen anytime soon.

For one - there were others (and not quoting the same guy).
We’re getting close to gestapo conditions here. They’ve even set up a snitch line if you want to rat out your neighbour for daring to go for a stroll with a friend. Same thing is happening in Britain, and I expect California and New York will be following suit, if they haven’t already done so. And at the same time as they are imposing these draconian measures, the government owned liquor and marijuana stores are declared an “essential service”. If the government seriously believed that this virus was that contagious and deadly, they would have shut down everything - including the oil refinery, paper mills, power plants and grocery stores. We still have all the fast food and coffee shops open for drive-thru and delivery, while the government is screaming at people to “shelter in place”. Lunacy.
I’m a senior and I’m among the many of us who consider this lockdown to be ridiculous. A large part of the flu deaths every year are the same groups they are concerned about with CV.
If this current zombie apocalypse had not come along they would not have given a rat’s ass about any of us in the “at risk” groups to protect us from the flu or its many strains.
A robust economy is more important to all than a blanket quarantine. Take measures on a small scale where and among groups where measures are needed. If the economy crashes then the aged and infirm will be the most affected since many of us are on a limited income.
Grandma will be taken care of but right now this grandpa needs to get ready to go to my office and carry on. A pox on all of the promoters of this march madness panic.
Millions dead by today? Someone clearly didnt know what they were talking about. Last week somebody asked me to predict dead by March 31 which had nothing to do with what I was saying but I answered off the top of my head, 5,000 and 2,000 the day before it hits that. Right now we are on track. If you check, the new deaths yesterday was about a quarter of all deaths. That should stay the same for the next 5 days or so.
"No one reached out to me and said, 'As a senior citizen, are you willing to take a chance on your survival in exchange for keeping the America that all America loves for its children and grandchildren?' And if that is the exchange, I'm all in," said Patrick, 70.
Right before our eyes, take a chance to preserve our way of lifebasically the same thing everyone who ever put on a military uniform does becomes sacrifice their lives so the economy can gain steam. Truly shameless.
Looks like the Drudge landing page..
Testing and treatment, with an emphasis on testing is the key to making the transition work. The South Korean model is the most successful in this regard.
Very true. I predict at some point in the next few years legislation will be enacted that gives younger family members an easy avenue to euthanize “grandma”. Of course, it will be sold as compassionate and anyone complaining about it “would rather see grandma suffer”.
And I say that as one who clearly recalls dial telephones, black and white TV and 25 cent a gallon gas.
