In an attempt to help ease the burden of the coronavirus pandemic on Americans, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., released a plan last week for what is essentially a temporary universal basic income (UBI) that would be distributed to all individuals in the United States, including illegal immigrants, and be funded by the printing of two $1 trillion coins.

There is no difference between a trillion-dollar coin and a trillion-dollar Treasury Bill purchased by the Federal Reserve Bank.
It is all smoke and mirrors, creating debt that will never be repaid.
I hope they stamp these trillion-dollar coins out of the same worthless metal that they make the current pennies from.

Okay, I’ll freely admit that although I’ve read dozens of books and listened to probably 80 hours of lectures on this aspect of economics, and I still don’t really understand it, I feel pretty confident this broad is as wrong as wrong can be.
According to the article:
Step 1: The U.S. mint makes two coins, each with a face value of $1 trillion.
Step 2: The Federal Reserve buys these two coins from the mint.
Step 3: Since the mint is part of the U.S. Treasury Department, the Treasury now has $2 trillion to throw around.
As I see it, the only hitch is in Step 2. Where does the Federal Reserve get that $2 trillion? Perhaps Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is working on that part right now. After all, she has a degree in economics.
Or in Thalib’s mental vacuum, “I’ll pay you hamburger for a Tuesday today”
Hey Kudlow said all of the stimuli will only cost SIX TRILLION dollars!!

There is NOTHING good about wasting 6 trillion dollars.
And yes, several years from now it will be seen as just as much a waste as obama’s stimulus
does’t much matter who is president when your debt dwarfs your GDP and you’re adding over a trillion in debt a year.
