Germany Loses 6 Million Coronavirus Face Masks in Kenya

German customs officials are attempting to track down about 6 million face masks ordered to protect health workers from the coronavirus which went missing at an airport in Kenya.
"The authorities are trying to find out what happened," said a defence ministry spokeswoman, confirming a report first published by Spiegel Online.
The FFP2 masks, which filter out more than 90% of particles, were ordered by German customs authorities. They and the armed forces procurement office have been helping the health ministry to get hold of urgently needed protective gear.

It was unclear why the masks, produced by a German firm, had been in Kenya.Read between the lines. Smells like a money transfer and nothing to do with masks.

Years ago the UN had a windmill / well drilling project in Chad (the first country south of Libya). They brought in drilling rigs, sunk the pipes and installed the windmills. A few months afterwards they went back, only to find the units missing.
They did, however, find some very nice galvanized cooking pans, knives, shovels and farm implements in the local markets. The “we buy the books and you eat them” anecdote is not as far fetched as one may think...
