House Democrats are indicating they want to go bigger and broader than the already massive economic stimulus package offered by Senate Republicans to blunt the coronavirus pandemic.
On a Thursday conference call featuring more than 200 members of the House Democratic caucus, lawmakers one by one laid out a sweeping wish list of provisions they want to see included in the nascent package, including a boost in infrastructure spending, an expansion of Social Security benefits and funding for states to set up an all-mail voting system in the event the pandemic extends into November’s elections.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to restructure things to fit our vision,” Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) told lawmakers, according to a source on the call.
Many of those proposals transcend the scope of the $1 trillion package introduced Thursday by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), which features cash payments to individuals, low-cost loans for small businesses, new funding to boost the health care system, and a financial lifeline for the hardest hit industries, like aviation and cruise lines.
And while not all of the Democratic proposals are likely to emerge in the final House package — legislation that is being crafted by party leaders and various committee heads — they foreshadow a showdown with McConnell and the White House over the size and direction of the latest relief bill, the third to be considered this month as policymakers scramble to prevent the spread of the virus.
McConnell has warned that he wants to limit the proposal to addressing the most immediate economic damage created by the pandemic.
"Anything that doesn't address that pandemic, it seems to me, should not be considered," he said.

When you open a company, you provide jobs to employees.
Ownership of a company is a job, too.
If the company fails due to bad management - them’s the breaks. If it fails directly because of government order, compensation is due under the constitution.
The Demonrats probably want full-blown fascism, with nationalized companies and a central-command economy. Look how well that worked for Cuba, Venezuela, and the old Soviet Union (all countries the Demonrats admire and kiss up to).

Her sister owns her own 1 person IT business, her customer’s can’t pay her. She’s put 6 yrs into making it a success, and keeping head above water.

Both Pelosi and Clyburn are 80 years old...they have both been in Congress way to long...and before they get ‘mail in votes’ we need to demand and get...TERM AND AGE LIMITS...especially when an individual begins to show memory, loss and confusion also physical disabilities getting around, which comes with the aging process...
No on...NO ONE in their 80 should be in Congress,,and that goes for both sides...Grassley, still seems mentally alert but he is like 87 or 88 !!!! that is too damn old to be making major decision for a Nation with over 300 Million people...

I support him, but its a shame he's so rare that we need to. Just as there's a lower end cut off for booze or driving, there ought to be an upper end cut-off for governing responsibility. Advisors.. no problem. If they get senile, they're gone.
But, voters don't really get to know, see or assess these people. Debates are shows. Advertisements and public speeches are acting theatre. Yeah, I guess I agree, even if there is the occasional exception.
This is the whole picture in a nutshell... typical Marxist ploy: just give us everything we want and all things can be returned to normal. These people should be imprisoned - but that is not possible constitutionally. Just tar and feather them and run them out of town on a rail.
Notice how the Dems all walk in lock-step with each other; no variation from the demanded norm. This Dem Party must be defeated at all costs! Their goal is to 'restructure things to fit our vision'... a pox on the whole lot of them.
