Not yet. Maybe Feinstein can use her clout with the ChiComs and get them in.

The president was asked about outsourcing yesterday. (I think it was yesterday that I’m referring to.) He refused to answer the question.

But if the look on his face was any indication, God help the ChiComs.

My gut tells me that he going to even the score, and not for himself, but for us. The info he has on the whole deal is likely staggering, and if there is one man on the planet who can use it as a big-assed lever, it is him.

I suspect that the Chinese Communist Party is working hard on damage control. Mao ruled through both force of personality and brute force when required. As the leader of the “revolution,” he had a level of following among the party faithful no else could match.

Since then, the Party has relied upon its reputation. China was a chaotic mess for the century and a half before the CCP’s 1949 victory. The Party has argued that they alone can bring stability and prosperity to China. Until now, they have been able to shove responsibility for mistakes onto local and regional party officials. The national party could deplore actions, fire and/or execute officials, and claim the problem solved.

Since they hamfisted their response to the Wuhan virus, and got a lot of people killed. General Secretary Xi and the Party leadership are now frantically trying to show that a) its not their fault; b) only the Party’s leaders can fix the situation; and c) the Party is not weak, challenging the Party and/or leadership is a deadly mistake.

Blaming the U.S. for the virus and making this apology are just two steps of this damage control effort.

Where is Chen Qiushi, China?

We are going to call it “China Virus” until you let him go and let him talk.

If you killed him, it will be the “Xi Virus”. (because we’ll probably have to call the next 10 global pandemics “china virus”, too.)

[Until now, they have been able to shove responsibility for mistakes onto local and regional party officials.]

It’s a perennial in Chinese history. The emperor hand-picks local and regional officials from outside the provinces they administer, whose principal virtue is their loyalty* to him. Then he deflects blame to them when they carry out the policies he expressly put them in place to carry out.

* In order to prevent them from putting down roots and becoming powers in their own right (thereby raising the possibility of secession or a direct challenge to the throne), he rotates them at regular intervals. In many ways, China’s “local” officials are little more than tourists and ticket-punchers whose focus is on their next assignment, which means following the emperor’s orders slavishly. Which makes it ironic when the emperor blames them for his own mistakes in judgment.

I believe something good will come out of this....like the majority of medicines will be Made in the USA....

And other businesses will be coming home. I'd love to see Levi come home.

A lot of Americans died in Korea and Vietnam for this hero of yours and the despicable force for tyranny that he turned China into.

None of your intellectual posturing can paper over it.

I am hoping that this is a big enough mistake from China that America can set things straight.
