World Health Organization recommends using paracetamol to treat coronavirus symptoms, instead of anti-inflammatories. Here's why.
The World Health Organization has recommended that people suffering from the symptoms of the virus avoid taking ibuprofen drugs such as Advil. Instead, the organization suggests taking paracetamol, such as Acamol (Tylenol).
They studied why the disease pathway in Italy is more serious, finding that most patients took ibuprofen at home. Researchers joined the virus and ibuprofen in the laboratory and came to the conclusion that administering ibuprofen accelerates multiplication of the virus and is related to a more serious course of the disease. They recommend to avoid ibuprofen and to administer paracetamol, aspirin, diclofenac.

Headline is false and misleading.
Physician Freepers; is this bullshit...or not?
How so?
Inflammation is part of the body’s defense mechanism against disease. If you suppress it in order to gain relief from symptoms then you weaken that defense. On the other hand, in infectious disease of the respiratory system it’s the inflammation that will kill you.
I would surmise that in mild cases you should follow the advice given here, but in severe cases anti inflammatory drugs are in order.
Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc. are all Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory drugs(NSAID).
The issue is probably also related to the anti-inflammatory part of NS_AI_Ds. It probably makes your lung cells weep instead of swelling up and stopping leakage.
ANY anti-inflammatory drug will suppress your body’s natural immune response, allowing the virus some relief from attack.
This isn’t making the virus worse.
Unless the idea of dying from fever is worse than dying from coronavirus, this is bad medical advice.
My son (O4 Marine currently in the Middle East) told us his medical officer told him the same thing. Tylenol OK, no ibuprofen.
of course ...
The UK’s NHS is advising patients not to use ibuprofen.
If the CDC has issued guidance on ibuprofen, I can’t find the info.
I don’t believe much of what is spewed by the WHO and I am sure the Tylanol makers are ecstatic over this report. For my achy knees, etc., using nothing now but Bufferin — tho it is hard to find these days. Works better than anything.
You may find this article interesting and by the way, the information you read here was gleaned and compiled from medical sources. In other words it is not home grown. And another thing to remember is, small amounts of vitamin C are always beneficial but in order to subdue a virus as in this instance it takes much larger amounts as described. If nothing else the described concoction will boost your immune system.
Just ran across the following article by Dr. Andrew W. Saul what seems to confirm the effectiveness of vitamin C. Along here NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) deserves also to be mentioned a precursor to a very potent anti-oxidant glutathione, which is also used as an antidote against acetaminophen, as well as many other poisonous substances.
Comment: Dr. Andrew W. Saul, an international expert on vitamin therapy, says: The coronavirus can be dramatically slowed or stopped completely with the immediate widespread use of high doses of vitamin C. Bowel tolerance levels of C taken in divided doses throughout the day, is a clinically proven antiviral, without equal. And by the way Dr. Andrew Saul is not the only one touting the effectiveness of C as an effective virus fighter.
Fighting the flu virus, this may include the new corona virus as well. A while back when the H-1 N-1 virus was active (2009) some one from the medical profession suggested the use of a good dose of NAC or N-Acetyl Cysteine along with a healthy dose of buffered ascorbic acid (Vitamin C-about twice as much C as NAC) and it appeared to work like a charm. An effective dose of C maybe in the range of 3 to 4 grams three times a day mixed in with one time 3 grams of NAC.
What I found to work very well is by taking a small glass jar and dissolve about 12 grams of calcium ascorbate as well as 3 grams of NAC in about 8 to 9 oz of water and over a period of 24 hours take a swig every so often until this mixture is gone. Calcium ascorbate as well as NAC should dissolve very quickly. Calcium ascorbate can be bought in bulk very reasonably. Small amounts of C in the 500 mg range maybe great as supplements, but in order to be as effective as possible in an attempt to subdue some of these nasty viruses LARGER AMOUNTS AS SUGGESTED ARE REQUIRED.
How vitamin C kills viruses?
Vitamin C uses many ways to help the body overcome viruses. At a high enough concentration in the blood, vitamin C will directly inactivate viruses. During a viral infection, the bodys supplies of vitamin C are rapidly depleted as the immune systems white blood cells absorb and quickly use up all the vitamin C available. The immune system actually uses vitamin C to make an important antioxidant inside the cells called glutathione. It also increases the bodys production of its own antiviral medicine called interferon.
Vitamin C also has its own anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving and antihistamine-like effects. It therefore powerfully improves symptoms like pain, swelling, weakness, rash and fever.
I saw the same information.
My point is that the headline as written, is inaccurate. Not saying that you shouldn’t be informed and make decisions based on circumstances... Just the opposite in fact.
In severe cases when the immune system overreacts (cytokine release syndrome), doc will prescribe anti inflammatory drugs to calm the immune system and prevent organ damage. Other than that the immune system shouldn’t be held back just to get symptom relief. It will only prolong the duration. So no ibuprofen.
As a healthcare professional who works in Infectious Diseases, I found your article interesting. However, I have just scoured every inch of the World Health Organization website and found no such statement or recommendation, nor did I find it on the CDC website.
Just sayin’....
Why not just say....... fake news?
The headline’s not misleading if you believe the WHO.
I don’t.
But some do.
