I've read that the 1918 flu was made worse by the use of Aspirin - perhaps a similar mechanism here

Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, etc. are all Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory drugs(NSAID).

The issue is probably also related to the anti-inflammatory part of NS_AI_Ds. It probably makes your lung cells weep instead of swelling up and stopping leakage.
