Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday the Trump administration is working with Congress on a plan that would send checks to Americans in an effort to blunt the coronavirus pandemic’s effect on the economy.

“We are looking at sending checks to Americans immediately,” Mnuchin told reporters. “Americans need cash now and the president wants to get cash now. And I mean now, in the next two weeks.

“We want to make sure Americans get money in their pockets quickly,” Mnuchin said at a White House briefing on the virus. “We want to make sure small business owners have access to the funds. We want to make sure airlines, hotels. We have an entire package.”

He said President Trump has also floated the idea of a payroll tax holiday.

Payroll tax idea is better. I’d rather have money I actually earned.

How much? Last time this was done it was $400 each or some such number. I hardly see that as an economy boost.

When the dust settles the 2020 Federal deficit should be pushing $3 trillion.

Bad, BAD idea. Trillions in spending/QE already earmarked for the Wu Flu and it’s only tuesday. We’ll do this all again in a few months when the Housing market craters 2008 style and banks start to fail.

Stupid. How are they going to spend the cash when they can’t get out? There’s going to cause a hyperinflation: too many dollars chasing too few goods.

I have paid SO MUCH in taxes over the years that if the Government wants to give me some money back I’ll take it.

If it is this bad, a better idea would be to fund manufacturers of ventilators and hospital beds to get them on a 24/7 production schedule. Also map out strategies for MASH style units for cities lacking hospital space.

I’m sure the money will be taxed as income, and has to be claimed on 2020 taxes.

If they do this, then it should be to taxpayers only. Wellfare recipients shouldn’t be getting a bonus check!

I don’t know anyone who “can’t get out.”

And if every business establishment near you is closed, just drive to your nearest truck stop. I swear, those places would remain open as normal even during the Apocalypse.
