Now that the number of new people infected with the coronavirus in China is slowing, the country's Communist Party is ratcheting up threats against the West, with a particularly nasty warning about access to life-saving drugs aimed at the United States.
In an article in Xinhua, the state-run media agency that's largely considered the mouthpiece of the party, Beijing bragged about its handling of COVID-19, a virus that originated in Wuhan and has spread quickly around the world, killing nearly 5,000 people and infecting thousands more. The article also claimed that China could impose pharmaceutical export controls which would plunge America into "the mighty sea of coronavirus."

Make a law that all drugs should be made here just like the meth and marijuana we have now.... : )
And who knows if the Chinese people would be any better off afterwards.
50 USC Ch. 34: NATIONAL EMERGENCIES
Drug prices are already high; what will doubling or tripling the costs do?
What good is being helpless against Chinese blackmail?
Trump is the first president to realize the danger of being so reliant on China for critical goods like computer chips and drugs.
Let China do this.
We have to bring more here. India is not a good fallback because they ignore patents, too.
And if those medicines aren't manufactured here? Will the government tell people they have to die? What control does that have over private insurance companies?
We're not supposed to be a socialist country with the government mandating to business what they will make and where. That's Bernie's line.
Which will be passed on the consumers by the companies that will continue to import the pharmaceuticals.
Good. All the more reason for the drug makers to take their production out of China.
And here’s the ‘payoff’ for the chicoms.
‘do what we want or your kids die of strep throat again’.
They're going to regret this.
Thanks to Obama, they have more nukes than we do.
You are right that trading in the free market is incentivized by profit, by self interest, not by doing the right thing.
When foreign trading partners cheat by manipulating exchange rates, stealing intellectual property, under paying their workers, and foregoing safety and quality control measures, our government must retaliate by imposing tariffs.
Otherwise, well-meaning citizens will naturally buy the least expensive goods, thus eroding our manufacturing base, undermining our economy, and jeopardizing national security.
Conservatives who make a principled argument against retaliatory tariffs in the name of free-enterprise, are simply wrong. American Globalists who lead the political fight against retaliatory tariffs in order to line their pockets are unAmerican (traitors).
Having said that, I object to the pejorative term free-traitors, because it slanders free-enterprise, the economic miracle of Western Civilization, and gives credence to the false idea that government should direct industrial policy rather than the free markets.
We can and should have both market driven free-enterprise AND a sound tariff policy to deal with inequities - a level economic playing field and a strong national security should be the goals - our government should put America first.
The cause of our current trade imbalances and threats to our national security is NOT free enterprise - its a bloated and corrupted central government, abusing our regulatory system to tip the scales in favor of rich globalist crony capitalists who do not have Americas interest at heart.
Trade should be free in the private sector. Private citizens should be free to trade with whomever they want and buy from wherever they want. That is not the problem. Our government though, should always put Americas interests first. The problem is that our politicians allow huge corporations to lobby (bribe) the government to act against national interests, THAT is the problem. These politicians need to be thrown out of office. These corrupt bureaucrats need to be fired. The un-American lobbyists need to be sent packing.
Its called the swamp and it needs to be drained. Calling them free traitors is counter productive - free trade is a very good thing - a government controlled industrial policy is a very bad thing.
I have my doubts.
Too many in DC depend on the chicoms paychecks.
Maybe we should get off our asses and start building pharmaceutical plants here...............BIG ONES.....FULLY AUTOMATED ONES.....Put China’s out of business..................
Big Beautiful Pharmaceutical Plants!
Cuts China out of our Pharmaceutical Supply Chain.
HUGE ones!
TY!
