Nick Lucas did the
original version of "Tiptoe Through the Tulips. The tune is from the movie "Goldiggers of Broadway," which is a "lost" movie (all of the copies placed in storage deteriorated--the fate of many movies shot before 1950).
In the late 1970's, I saw him perform it on a couple of occasions. He was a friend of conservative radio and TV commentator George Putnam. Lucas passed away in 1982.
