A top U.S. health official said officials are starting to see community transmission of COVID-19 coronavirus cases in United States as the number of countrywide cases has risen to 72 as of Sunday.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, explained on Sunday that there has been an increase in cases of the virus that cannot be traced to anyone. This is in contrast to previous cases, where patients had a connection to an infected person from a hard-hit area such as China or the Diamond Princess cruise ship held off Japan.
While it’s not a surprise to federal health officials, Fauci said it will make it more difficult to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
“This was something that was entirely expected when you have diffuse infections throughout the world—as you’ve just mentioned, South Korea, Iran, Italy, in places like that—sooner or later there are going to be cases in your country that you can’t directly trace to anyone,” Fauci told Fox News on Sunday. “That becomes much more challenging about identifying the source.”
Iran, South Korea, and Italy in recent days have seen an uptick in COVID-19 cases, ranging in the thousands. In Italy, the cases are centered in the country’s northern Lombardy and Veneto regions, while in South Korea, Daegu has been the most impacted.
Community transmission cases with an unknown origin have been reported in Washington state, where the first American fatality from the coronavirus was also confirmed, and in nearby Oregon. Health officials will now have to conduct “much more intensive contact tracing in addition to the isolation,” said Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Wonder why they won’t tell the race of the victims. Are they Caucasian, African or Asian? Does not fit the politically correct narrative but it appears that Caucasians and Africans are less likely to get infected and if they do they have not died or become seriously ill. The US Government should not hide data from the people.

Really? We have flu outbreaks every year that make this particular "problem" look like an insignificant pimple on George Soros' butt. And plenty of people go out in public when they have the flu.
Before you say that "we have vaccines for the flu, but nothing for the Budweiser Virus", remember that there are many strains of the flu, each with their own particular vaccine quirks. Since these vaccines need time to be developed, packaged and made available to the public, the doctors are guessing in August which strain will hit in December. As I recall, the accuracy rate on this guess is somewhere around 50%. What that means is that there is half a chance that the vaccine you got for Christmas will do you no good in February when a different strain turns out to be the "winner".
Better the dipsticks on the Left and their minions in the Lame Stream Media should talk about standard precautions to prevent the flu and stop making this into the latest "Trump is responsible" nothingburger bullcrap.
Obviously this data is not being revealed and thus far despite its importance journalists follow the politically correct narrative and refuse to report or inquire about the race of the victims. Hopefully someone will directly and publicly ask Dr. Fauci that question. There is no doubt the CDC has that information but has not released it. People ought not need to speculate why this data is being hidden. They are entitled to know the truth.

The way that China has reduced the rate of new infections is basically to shut places down. We need to do this here, too.
