Supermarket shelves are starting to be stripped bare as Americans prepare for the spread of coronavirus by stockpiling on medications and non-perishable items across the country.
People have been panic buying items from stores ever since health authorities warned that Americans should start preparing for domestic acceleration of the virus, which has infected more than 80,000 people worldwide and killed nearly 3,000.
There are now 60 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the U.S. and the first case where the origin of the disease is unknown was confirmed on Wednesday.
Supplies have been flying off the shelves countrywide this week with people posting photos on social media showing the lack of products available in some stores and pharmacies.
A supermarket aisle in Virginia had been stripped of non-perishable items like pasta.
People were also sharing photos of their coronavirus stockpiles at home, including one man in Texas who said he bought a year's supply on non-perishable food in one night.
Jesse Colombo, who is a financial analyst in Dallas, tweeted a photo of his emergency food pile, including rice, Spam, freeze-dried foods and beans.
'I just bought an additional year's worth of food last night. Everyone needs to have a stockpile of food. I wouldn't even touch stocks (or even gold/silver) before having food in these times,' he tweeted, adding he was 'on edge' with everything that was happening in relation to coronavirus and the economy.
A woman in Michigan shared a photo of her 'grocery store basement' that was filled with shelves stocked full of items.
It comes as thousands of people were buying up face masks to protect themselves despite evidence that most people who aren't sick don't need to wear them.

I stockpiled on Corona.
What irony
The media are hellbound,so they try to make everyone elses life here hell on earth.
No deaths in U.S. 80,000 flu deaths in 2019
I happen to make a Sam’s shopping run this AM, because it was time to do so.
Place was typically busy, with the usual items in carts.
So, no panic buying observed. This is N Ga.
I calmly and methodically bought extra food, some masks, rubber gloves and toilet paper over a span of two weeks about 3 weeks ago. Never panicked and certainly not now that I’m ready for whatever might happen. If it’s nothing I’ll use all the stuff I have. I’ll eat the food, use the tp and use the masks and gloves for painting and yard projects.
This panic is getting rediculous.
In areas that get snowfall you will often see this phenomenon. 12 inches of snow and you would think there will be no eggs milk or bread for months.
I have seen entire meat aisles stripped clean except for vegan stuff if the weather man predicts a bunch of snow.
I am already seeing low stock in local areas but have no way to know if it is because they just havent restocked...or supply issues, etc.
This is just silly.
Was at the supermarket last night. Shelves still full.
Daily Mail is extremely anti US and anti Trump. And getting more so it seems. Bloomberg’s effect?
“The media are hellbound,so they try to make everyone elses life here hell on earth.”
Oh yes they are all in on the “Pain Train” Get as many people upset, panicked or even hurt to get the story or the viewership up. Mostly its politically leveled at Trump.
These people are nothing short of refuse of the human race.
Isnt the Daily Mail in the U.K.?
What about their store shelves?
In other news I went to order a second WaterBob (bathtub water storage) cuz I wanted to add one for the cabin. Could not find it in stock anywhere.
I ordered a different brand and it’ll be here Sunday or Monday.
Just information
exactly-In the US as someone who works in the CPG food industry and for one of the largest food mfg , I can tell you that we have 4-6 months supply-our sales mgrs like it this but this is just fear mongering and the mainstream media loves this in the hope it brings down Trump -remember Y2K disaster-no disruption -or Ebola-how same media said 25% of Us would be infected.
and we on Free Republic should stop helping them by reposting these alarmist media post
They’re panicking in Northern VA because that community never turns off the mainstream media 24 hours a day.
Walk away from it and suddenly life becomes much happier.
