Dr. Nancy Messonnier, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions (CDC) National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, warned that the spread of Chinas deadly coronavirus in the United States is all but certain and said Americans everyday life could be dramatically affected.
As more and more countries experience community spread, successful containment at our borders becomes harder and harder, Messonnier told reporters on Tuesday afternoon.
Its not a question of if this will happen but when this will happen and how many people in this country will have severe illnesses, the top public health official added. Disruption to everyday life might be severe.
Messonnier said the continued spread of the virus has led to a shift to a more dire tone.
The data over the last week and spread in other countries has certainly raised our level of concern, and raised our level of expectation that we are going to have community spread here, so that has changed our tone, she said.
The illness that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan has now infected more than 80,000 people globally. 77,000 cases have been confirmed in China with others in parts of Europe and the Middle East.
To date, 57 cases have been confirmed in the U.S., including 40 cases of people who the government transported from the Diamond Princess cruise ship from Japan.
The virus spread caused the U.S. stock market to plunge.
An expected rebound after Mondays 1,000-point nosedive on Wall Street had yet to materialize by midday Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down nearly 500 points by 1 p.m. EST. The S&P 500 was down about 50 points and the Nasdaq 122 points.
The 10-year Treasury yield hit a record low of 1.32 percent Tuesday while the 30-year bond also fell.

Do you have more information on this?
Color me skeptical, 70k infected, 2k dead isn't alarming to me, but if there's contrary information, I'd definitely consider reassessing.
>>I hope COVID-19 proves the death of “political correctness” and the heretofore vorbotten open acknowledgement that there ARE differences between the races that are more than skin deep.
If sickle-cell didn’t convince them, i doubt this will either.
Last I heard, there were 16 cases in Vietnam and all have been "cured". And I'm wondering if all of those cases originated in China.
3 years ago read about a study out of Japan that said high dose (10,000 units) vitamin D helped prevent viral infection.
Been doing this every winter since then. Haven’t had the yearly office bug since.
Pretty much all of our vitamin C comes from China and I haven’t been able to figure out if it’s regulated at all. (Or vitamin D for that matter)
Work just outside the Beltway and run into a few FDA people weekly. Ask them about our generic drugs and are they produced in China?
Their response is either “Yeah” to “Absolutely Not!”
Lordy.
Are you downplaying the flu? 60k people in our country die from it every year.
(Yes I know you're about 100 times more likely to die from coronavirus once you get it.)
.
..
I confirmed as well. Thanks.

She is just ginning up the fear. There is enough already. I can not believe everything she says knowing who her brother is.
“They are ignoring the other countries that seemed to have stopped the spread.”
Every country that has seen more than one case, is still seeing new cases. Even today. Except the US.
There has been no community spread documented here. But CDC is saying that is not a static situation and it will happen.
No other nation has stopped the spread. Several have slowed it.
They are ignoring the other countries that seemed to have stopped the spread.

Which countries are those?
It’s covered in medical reports assessing the risks coming out of China, I don’t have the actual links now. Basically the pattern is
First week you feel a little sick
Second week, 80% of the people will get better, 20% will have a relapse/get worse. They are generally hospitalized at that point for respiratory distress.
If you haven’t recovered by the end of the second week, in the third week you have a 20% chance of dying, as for the rest they possibly recover although it is not clear yest how fast your recover. It seems that this may linger in your system for weeks and weeks. That’s why the statistics on recovery are so low, many of those infected by the virus aren’t over it yet even though they are several weeks in.
I don't know enough about viral infections to understand why EVERYBODY doesn't get one when it is prevalent.
However, a mortality rate of one in thirty five (that is, 2k dead out of 70k infected) extrapolates to approximately 10 MILLION people out of a population of 350 million in the US. Now that sounds like a lot.
If you factor in an increased mortality for the elderly, then it sounds even worse given that my wife and I are in our seventies.
Until somebody offers an explanation to justify complacency, I will choose to avoid contact with just about anybody for several months until my crystal ball loses its cloudiness.
I’ve been thinking the same thing. Not just Mexico but all Spanish speaking countries and all of Africa but Mexico being right next door lacking respect for our laws and border will be a problem when this thing runs through the populations in those countries.
So she wasn’t making an official statement, right? She was just chatting with “reporters”?
High doses of Colloidal Silver causes the skin to turn blue like that and it’s permanent.
“Trump needs to say we must seal the border immediately to help stop any infected person crossing into our country. Also all passports need to be inspected and anyone coming from an infected country needs to be quarantined.”
Exactly right.
And how do you substantiate that statement? Warmer temperatures in April? Look at Singapore. 80 degrees and there has been an outbreak there. What about South America, I think they have their first in Brazil.
If you take enough colloidal silver, you turn into a Smurf.
