Reuters UK ^ | April 27, 2009 | Herbert Lash

Oil pared losses and world stocks seesawed on Monday as cost-cutting plans by General Motors and economic data offset fears that a flu outbreak could spread into a pandemic and further strain a global recession.

Investors who reckoned markets would fall on fears that the flu outbreak in Mexico could spread worldwide with dire consequences were forced to reverse their bets and buy stocks.

"I’m just wondering who benefits by stoking the hysteria."

Bernie Sanders...for one.

There are an increasing number of people who are frightened by the hysteria. People do crazy things when they are hysterical, like vote for a socialist who promises to have the federal gov't take over our healthcare system.

Exactly. Look, they couldn’t crash the economy last summer when every news outlet proclaimed a recession was just around the corner. I don’t think anyone created this virus/situation for nefarious political reasons, but I sure as shootin’ think they are going to exploit it for all the mileage they can get if it means potentially knocking Trump’s solid economic leg out from underneath him.

"Trump support is as solid as a rock."

Amongst rational conservatives and even some (R)'s in general? Yes.

There just aren't enough of us to re-elect him if he looses a significant portion of the independents and (D)'s that voted for him in 2016.

If the current trajectory of hysteria in this country alone continues, our economy will cave. Just take a look at what's happened in the last two days alone in the stock market (leading indicator). This has occurred with zero (0) deaths and only 53 cases in the U.S. to date.

The weaker among us will vote for the socialist with his promise that the federal government takes over our healthcare.

“...If they can crater the economy, the Dems deprive Trump of his most potent talking point, and the source his strength with the voters....”
Exactly, They’ve tried everything else and totally failed: 24/7/365 negative MSM blasts, the Mueller fiasco, the impeachment fiasco, etc. They’ve nothing else left....except this. They are willing to kill thousands, if not millions of people, in an effort to bring down the POTUS. The evil POSs should be hunted down, tried, convicted and publicly hanged on world-wide TV.

Americans will never vote for a socialist.

Here’s a question: If the situation is so dire, why aren’t the people who think Trump is doing such a crappy job calling on the POTUS to close the borders?

There you go again, with your logic and reason. :)

This doesn't include the bodies from nursing homes in china, nor those undiagnosed but dead in china, nor do we have any idea of the accuracy of china's claims.

Is it a serious disease? Yes.

Is it spreading? Yes.

Perhaps the Senate briefing is to prep the nation for closing the borders

Once closed, it can be reopened selectively

I’ll make you a bet: That during this entire scare the people who say Trump is screwing up will NEVER demand the borders be closed.

You are right about demanding.

My thought is they will not resist closing to exclude the hyped up virus

Shall we close the border or Disney Land? The border or Boeing production? The border or Las Vegas?

Are you kidding!? You really buy the “Independent Voter” nonsense!?

He hasn’t lost a vote since 2016 and has only increased support. He will outperform in EVERY state he won last time around.

Hysteria can only last so long. 2% death rate in countries with not so good healthcare.
