White House to request emergency coronavirus funds
The Hill ^ | 02 24 2020 | Peter Sullivan

The White House is preparing to ask Congress for emergency funding to fight the coronavirus, a spokesman said Monday, but declined to say how much would be requested.

"We need some funding here to make sure that we protect all Americans,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said on Fox News.

He declined, however, to specify how much funding would be requested.

"I don’t have an announcement on the specific amount yet, but we need to combat this, we need to make sure our people are safe and the president is always going to take action to do that,” Gidley said.

Democrats have been calling for the Trump administration to request additional funds, but officials had previously said they could shift money from other programs. As the virus spreads to more countries, the administration is now shifting to ask for funds.

Some news outlets reported the administration would ask for approximately $1 billion, which some experts doubted would be enough funding.

If the US successfully contains the virus it will be a non-story.

If the virus spreads the narrative will be 'Trump didn't do enough fast enough'.

“If the virus spreads the narrative will be ‘Trump didn’t do enough fast enough’.”

You can bet the farm on that one. I find it odd with how the news is handling this one. Is it a really nasty virus or a run of the mil flu that has gotten blown way out of proportion. Im not a Virologist so I can determine how bad this really is.

What we've been discussing on daily thread is that it is probably late to begin whatever this vague news suggests.

It's past time for POTUS to address the pandemic directly with us as soon as he returns from India.

And he needs to tell us he is taking personal interest in his CDC.

PS. Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong ALL tell their citizens how every single diagnosed patient contracted it, where (if they know), how sick that person has become, who has been backtracked, contacted and daily monitored in self-quarrantine! Is the once greatest medical system on the planet unable to do this much!?

The problem with this discussion is that you could have 20-billion dollars in your hand, but if most all drugs are produced in China, and their production cycle is broke....it won’t matter.

Same for masks...roughly 95-percent of all N-95 masks are made in China.

Someone brought up that most all penicillin is made in China today.

The problem: It’s more serious than the average flu and it’s surprisingly more lethal. On the other hand, it’s not the zombie apocalypse or the black plague either. Countries with crap medical tech and medical systems will be having major problems with it from the outset, particularly in places where the majority of citizens have major loss of lung function (as in China) due to pollution and smoking.

Should be pointed out that first-gen penicillin itself is basically all but useless against most human ailments due to medication resistant infections. However, the later generation antibiotics are still reasonably effective, and almost all of *those* are made only in China, or contain critical precursor compounds made only in China.

Yeah, have you not been following the decay of the US medical system?

In theory does this not propose a larger problem of adaptation of the virus. IT pretty much has the world as a test tube and I am worried that this may make the next jump. If that happens this is going to be very nasty.

Trump meets with Tom Cotton (the multi-agency “flu czar”)every day to discuss current steps being taken by the CDC, among others. Even the MSM was forced to admit this, although naturally they’re not going to call attention to it. So don’t think he’s sitting around doing nothing.

No matter what he does, the media is going to fault him on it.

Should lump in an extra couple billion for border monitoring and security. Doesn’t help to block international flights if you let a million people walk across the border.

Two trillion dollars would be good. IMO the eventual cost, in terms of increases in the national debt, will be $10-$15 trillion.

1. Hong Kong protests have stopped; Xi can round people up and put them in treatment centers. (I can’t take credit for this idea as it was one of Rush’s callers just now)
2. Hurts stock market to hurt PDJT, and MSM is talking it up, while talking about the market in a free-fall.

Anyone still think it is not on purpose? China/CIA bioweapon?

No, it won’t stop PDJT.

Look for buying oppty’s in the market.

I don’t understand why the Left hates Apple, though, as they donate $$$ to the Dems and likely 90% of who works for Apple are Dems.

Ask for $10 billion and give $5 billion to the wall to keep the virus out. What will Pelosi say then?

Trump needs to get out in front of this and begin preparations for quarantine. He needs to consider what he’s going to do if you lock down 30 states for a month. If people don’t work they can’t get paid, it’s not their fault but what happens to mortgages, car payments, credit card, or simply eating? The US would be better off using income taxes to put money into the average citizen accounts for 30 days than giving another chunk to the banks.

Also this may sound rather conspiratorial but it wouldn’t surprise me to see the globalist use this virus as an excuse to ditch physical cash because cash circulation would be an excellent way for this virus to spread.

This could bring down Trump and end his presidency if we don’t handle it well.

The CDC’s decisions and actions are making ordinary, non-political folks lose confidence in Trump. Only because I separate the egregious actions of this country’s CDC from the President is my confidence not shaken.

Rod Rosenstein’s sister is en pointe at the CDC. Not good. Trump needs to get back home, look into the decisions we are being told like no testing of citizens who haven’t been in China! Our very lives are threatened by the anti-Trump saboteurs in all parts of the Fed bureaucracy.

I don’t think draconian measures are necessary, and if anything, calling for massive quarantines, etc. would not only panic people but give the Dems another notch in their Trump=Hitler attack. No matter what he does, they’re going to attack him.

I agree, since the media has stirred up hysteria, it would be good to go out and address the public. Which I am sure he will do, since the hysteria has built over the weekend (when it turned up in Italy).
