The Coming Bloomberg-Sanders Train Wreck
American Thinker.com ^ | February 24, 2020 | Jonathan F. Keiler

While Michael Bloomberg's Nevada debate performance was justly and widely panned, he attacked Bernie Sanders effectively, demonstrating he's probably the only candidate who can derail the Vermont senator's nomination. By the same token, Sanders can wreck Bloomberg's hopes by mobilizing his own base against the billionaire at the convention or even running as an independent candidate. Each man has the ability to take the other one down, and that dynamic is the key to who eventually wins the nomination.

The sudden ascent of Bloomberg to the top ranks of Democrat contenders is generating plenty of speculation about machinations within the party to derail Sanders, quash the Democrat far left, or sacrifice the presidency in return for down-ticket success. Such conspiratorial speculation is natural, but it requires assumptions about backroom plotting for which there is little or no evidence. Better to go with what we can see with our own eyes, which suggests that, whether by design or accident, Bloomberg has the capacity to severely damage Sanders and vice versa.

In Nevada, we saw Sanders really attacked for the first time in the campaign, and only by Bloomberg. Why the reticence by the other candidates to go after the demonstrably wacky socialist senator? Because to do so, they have to either call him out as a phony or attack his socialist agenda.

Bernie’s people will not revolt if Bloomberg buys the nomination. They are too easily led.

Bloomberg will not win the nomination. He will flame out on Super Tuesday and exit.

Bloomberg’s going to win this. Money talks, BS walks.

Bloomberg will improve his debate performances enough to take that issue off the table, and despite everyone’s hyperventilating about how badly he did, he landed some clearly good shots against Bernie, who, as this article makes clear, is Bloomberg’s only true opponent.

I predict: Bloomy for the win.

But then, what will the berniebots do?

I think Bloomberg seeks not to win this on Super Tuesday but at the convention. Milwaukee will go up in flames.

But then, what will the berniebots do?

Bernie is 78, has little left to lose, and is a true believer in socialism. I say he gets mad and bitter, girds up his loins and makes a third-party run. His supporters will go with him. It will make Trump unbeatable but I suspect Bloomberg would finish a distant third, giving the BernieBots a valuable consolation prize, total control of the Democrat Party.

I think POTUS has a great ad if Sanders get it ----

"Our economy is doing so well, even our Socialists are millionaires and have 3 houses!"

I have a hard time believing that the Bernie supporters will support the billionaire from NYC is their desperate attempt to stop the other billionaire from NYC. Especially when it is clear that the DNC has stabbed Bernie in the back (again). I think large numbers of them will sit the general election out. Bloomberg isn’t a socialist. He’s not their guy at all.

Sigh...

The powers that be in the DNC are throwing the 2020 cycle... the entire purpose of the #seinfeldimpeachment was to take out Biden, not Trump, to ensure a radical gets the nomination and gets crushed.... So that the radical wing of the party can be knee capped, and the party will be able to moderate for the 2024 cycle.

Given their druthers, I assume those folks would have rather Warren be the radical that gets the nomination, as her damage down ticket would be less than Bernie’s but the end game is to make sure a radical gets the nomination, so that the far left wing of the party can be completely knee capped after this cycle....

Classic Rope a Dope... the idea that Bloomberg will be the nominee is comical. Only way he’s the nominee is if Bernie decides to go rogue and run as an independent.

Pelosi’s little staged temper tantrum is part and parcel to this strategy as well... The goal here is to make sure a radical gets the nomination, gets crushed, then the party can knee cap the far left, and moderate for 2024 when they actually will have a shot a winning.

Democrat handlers are not remotely as stupid as most of their rank and file folks are... they know the radical left wing is unelectable outside of some deep blue districts where “a ham sandwich” would win as long as it has a D beside its name.

They are intentionally throwing the 2020 cycle, and rope a doping the radical left wing of their party....

i don’t think Bloomberg is in only to win: i think he will stick it out because it gives him the latitude to spend gobs of money, all of it against DJT without the burden of ordinary contribution limits.

If that’s what the DNC is doing its sure to backfire on them.

Bernie’s supporters are true believers. Young, up-and-coming true believers. Steeped in Alinsky and hatred of political enemies. If they lose this time they’ll just like awake in bet each night thinking up more creative ways to knee their opponents in the groin next time. They will never run up a white flag and go along quietly with the moderates.

Burnie and Bumbleberg might be creating a train wreck for the Democrats, but that could only be good news for the United States and the world as a whole. Obviously, it is much too early to declare a “sure thing” for Donald Trump, as this could still go horribly sideways in so many ways. After all, only a very small fraction of the Democrat primary voters has yet been heard from, and we don’t know what the wider view is of the independent “switch voters” out there.

I think your comment has good internal logic. It could all be true.

But I, for one, don’t think the Democrats are playing such a sophisticated game. They did not perform well at the impeachment, nor in Iowa. I think they are clowns and I do not think that they are working a masterful strategy for 2024. Just my two cents.

Sanders can be bought. Hillary cheated her way through a primary and then bought off Sanders with a lake house, (Camp Gulag), and Sanders went quietly away. So much for all the noble sentiments and fighting to the end. Sanders went for the small dollars like a little ugly whore.

This is all very interesting. Hadn’t really thought of it that way...but it is hard for me to believe they would actually try to do this.

It makes political sense. The rabid left is gaining control of their party.

I posted a very interesting article from Salon about the Sanders people are trying to take over using the current construct...to make it all more acceptable

It’s worth reminding people that Alinsky’s methods were first used by the left but work equally well for anyone.

Donald Trump is the best politician in history at applying Alinsky’s methods, and the results have been amazing.

I see it exactly opposite. I think Breadline Bernie wins. He has all the energy. Bloomberg hasn’t even been in the first 3 primaries and isn’t even a blip on the radar in South Carolina. If he were going to make a go of this, he should have jumped in at least 6 months ago. Bernie’s Communist Cadres have all the energy.

I suspect the Democrats will be so afraid of splitting the party that they’d rather just write off this presidential election by letting Bernie have the nomination. And while Bernie might well cave and agree to be bought off.....like he was last time....his little commie supporters are far more militant and would explode if he got the most votes and then got screwed out of the nomination by a johnny come lately billionaire capitalist.
