Lol. You really have to watch for traffic on the other side of the road. Some people really hug the double lines to the point of crossing them & many people pulling trailers or driving motorhomes aren’t prepared for some of the really narrow parts & hairpin turns.

Man, you haven’t been on many roads out west (especially mountain) if you think that’s scary. Very mild, IMO.

The mountainside roads on the Ring of Kerry in Ireland are plenty scary too, but few folks would dare to drive them aggressively.

My wife and I went to Mallorca (island off the south of Spain) some years back and I rented a car. We drove out to a monastery in a very rugged mountain range and had dinner there, it was beautiful, watched the sunset.

The roads are very narrow and very twisting, with huge drop offs and minimal guard rails, but driving out during daylight was not bad.

However, after the sun went down and we were driving back, it was damned scary, not knowing the roads and cars with drivers who do know the roads screaming around corners towards you (especially when you are driving the outside lane) was hair raising.

My wife was scared to death, and I was white-knuckled and gritting my teeth for that ride. I actually sweated.

Last time I did it was in a rental minivan and the kids were happy or sleeping but I was white knuckling it like crazy.

I’ve driven it. If you’re sober, go the speed limit and not play with your digital device, you’ll be ok.

While that is true, the speed is higher and the length of time is so long, longer than the time spent on legit scary mountain roads. So it takes its toll.

Ive driven it and did not think it scary. You have to pay attention and drive smart, but scary... no.

Now mountain roads in 3rd world and some 2nd world countries... those will pucker you so bad your ass takes a bite out of the seat.

It’s a walk in the park compared to Hiway 1 north of SF to Eureka.

Lots of sphincter tightening roads out west. Try getting off I 25 (headed south toward Los Cruces,NM) on 152 west to Silver City. You will cross the Black Range aka Sierra Diablo...Devils Mountain all aptly named.

“Try the Million Dollar Highway from Durango to Ouray CO.”

They didn’t waste any of the millions on guardrails.

I’ve driven Tail of the Dragon (US 129S) twice. In a minvan. ;-)

No drop offs to quite challenge some of the roads out west, but, it’s one windy and wearing (to the driver) road.

One other factor with Tail of the Dragon is that it gets more traffic than lesser known roads. Some bikers do not like it for that reason - understandable!

Oops, I forgot to add that the road was fogged in the next morning when we headed back toward SF. I would love to go back to that beautiful ‘motel’ but do not want to do that drive again.

There are many European roads that I wouldn’t want to drive again, too. Beautiful scenery though.....

up Mt TAMALPAIS is MORE AWESOME.

especially in the fog. Or down to Stinson beach - totally fun in the fog. Never again, haha.
