Two people were killed when a car went off Highway 1 and over a cliff in Big Sur on Tuesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Trail Ridge Road, the Rockies
Meh. Coastal Hwy is a huge road compared to some roads in the Sierras and Rockies.
Scariest drive I ever took was along the ridge road from one end of Santorini (Greek island) to the other c. 1980. That road was tight, no guardrails and straight drop-offs.
Went back a few years ago and they’ve dug out a wider track and added guardrails. I wonder how many drunken Germans they had to lose before upgrading it, because I know the locals loved the old road.
I did General Construction all my life. Built a Wal-Mart in Joplin and had a buddy in Neosho. Been past the Carver NM many times.
Wife’s mothers side was from Rogers area.
It’s a great area.
I have good memories from that time in my life.
I’ve been to Neosho a number of times.
My uncle used to come down from Olatha to buy his Buicks at a dealership there.
In the late 90’s, business took me to SF several times a year and I’d always try to time it so I could take a long weekend and pay for it with cheaper airfare, going week to week was considerably less. I’ve been up the PCH in a SAAB turbo convertible and down the PCH as far as Carmel in a ridiculous red Corvette, both rented. North in Marin I can see how someone could get in trouble easily if inattentive. South, it didn’t seem all that big of a deal to me. Beautiful drive either way but north I thought was more striking. Warmer weather south, though.
Would love to ride my ebike out there.
The Moki Dugway is one of my favorite drives, though I wouldn’t want to drive it during a rainstorm. Thanks for posting the picture.
I knew with our gang it wouldn’t be long for someone to come out with its name.
LOL
Driven it many times. Beautiful.
It’s not that dangerous. In a few spots, of course. Just keep your car on the road where running off the road means a long precipitous drop. There are lots of scenic turnouts, and areas where you can actually drive a few feet off the road and not fall. Anyone who has grown up in the mountains wouldn’t bat an eye.
Nonsense! The 6th Generation Camaro is widely recognized as one of the very best driving cars in the world. I know a number of professional race car drivers that have purchased them as daily drivers (or have publicly stated their intent to do so).
The GM Alpha platform is really a wonder to behold. Reviewers regularly rate cars based off of it as better than the BMW M3.
I’ve driven it and the Amalfi Coast Highway - 1 is more open but I enjoyed the Amalfi more.
Drove it in my VW camper. In ‘84, part was closed due mudslide.
Later, learned of an excavator permanently lost in another mudslide.
...and that’s saying a lot!
Rental Camaro is not equal to a competently-driven Camaro.
I drove a narrow 2-lane pass between France and Switzerland—at night!
Only indication of the edge were occasional raised granite bumps. Headlights might make them appear.
An occasional glance over the edge showed a twinkling light miles away!
My complaint abut Camaros is the poor visibility. Like sitting in a bathtub.
A high beltline and tiny windows make it a difficult car to drive.
Gravity wins another round.
Centrifugal force, inertia, friction and gravity all together won.
How many genders were there back then?
I’m having difficulty convincing my kids that I want “Gravity wins another round” on my tombstone.
