SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) — A Senate bill in Illinois would ban the use or sale of gas-powered leaf blowers in the state.
Illinois Senator Laura Fine (D) SB3313 filed last week by Senator Laura Fine (D) of the 9th Senate District amends the Environmental Protection Act. It states that "a person may not operate or sell at retail a gas-powered leaf blower in the State. Provides that a person who violates the amendatory Act's provisions shall be subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $500."
The bill lists environmental and noise pollution as the reasons for the ban.
It states that two-stroke and four-stroke engines used in gas-powered leaf blowers emit exceedingly high rates of pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides, and hydrocarbons.
These emissions, the bill states, are a contributing factor to smog formation and acid rain.
The bill also claims that leaf blowers generate noise at a decibel level capable of causing hearing loss in a short amount of time.
In addition, it states that leaf blowers send dust and other small particles like metals, allergens, and animal feces into the air for considerable distances.
If signed into law, the bill would make use or sale of a gas-powered leaf blower illegal in the state of Illinois as of January 1, 2022.
Violators of the law would be subject to a fine up to $500.
I object to blowing the leaves and litter down the street or pulverizing it into fine dusty cloud. Rarely, do I see the gardeners accumulate the debris and haul it off.

Here in North Idaho, you will hear leaf blowers AND snow blowers running at the same time!
Often governmental entities have no real way to enforce codes on each other.
So they will outlaw the natural gas and coal electricity generators they currently use?
I agree. Why people people just don’t mow them I can’t understand. 95& of them disappear from sight that way and the trees get to use them for food the following spring like nature intended.

That is good and funny. The only problem is the democrat politician is a wind bag to begin with, but the crank needs to be made of titanium. As the democrats backside would be too corrosive, as democrat politicians are full of crap.

I think banning mexican music on all work crews in the neighborhoods would be a better bill, if one has the desire to ban something that is loud and annoying.
thats crap, they sure do, just slower. geez talk about putting everyone in the same basket. besides plenty elderly use leaf blowers, just electric ones that are low maintenance.
ryobi has some nice cordless mowers and they even make a decent battery riding mower.
well see they ban stuff that isn’t important to them because if they don’t use it, it’s not important.
