SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) A Senate bill in Illinois would ban the use or sale of gas-powered leaf blowers in the state.
Illinois Senator Laura Fine (D) SB3313 filed last week by Senator Laura Fine (D) of the 9th Senate District amends the Environmental Protection Act. It states that "a person may not operate or sell at retail a gas-powered leaf blower in the State. Provides that a person who violates the amendatory Act's provisions shall be subject to a civil penalty not to exceed $500."
The bill lists environmental and noise pollution as the reasons for the ban.
It states that two-stroke and four-stroke engines used in gas-powered leaf blowers emit exceedingly high rates of pollutants, including carbon monoxide, nitrous oxides, and hydrocarbons.
These emissions, the bill states, are a contributing factor to smog formation and acid rain.
The bill also claims that leaf blowers generate noise at a decibel level capable of causing hearing loss in a short amount of time.
In addition, it states that leaf blowers send dust and other small particles like metals, allergens, and animal feces into the air for considerable distances.
If signed into law, the bill would make use or sale of a gas-powered leaf blower illegal in the state of Illinois as of January 1, 2022.
Violators of the law would be subject to a fine up to $500.
I live near Palm Beach. You can have your multi-million dollar home but not be able to play music at a certain volume while sitting in the back yard by your beautiful pool as it might disturb your neighbors. With that said, there is so much vegetation that leaf blowers are blasting away at all times during the daylight hours! It’s a highly regulated town but they can’t solve that problem.
Sleep well tonight, Illinois. Your gummint got your back.
You ignorance is actually stupidity

This year, tired of fooling with two cycle engines, I bought a battery powered back pack blower. It is truly a great machine.
The drawback is it doesn’t run very long on a battery without recharge
So they will use electricity, which is generated by coal and oil.
Little by little, they want to eliminate anything powered by gas or oil. And that includes electrical power plants, which they will eventually require to be windmills and/or solar cells.
I didn’t realize that there were so many sheltered, nanny state Freepers
Mommy, ban them, they’re noisy
Mommy, ban them, they’re smelly
Mommy, ban them, they’re dirty
Mommy, I have to turn the volume up on my TV to watch old reruns of Full House when they run their leaf blowers! Make the government make them stop!
It used to take me and my three teen boys an entire Saturday to rake my leaves. which we had to do 3-4 times every fall. Blisters. Muscle aches.
Then my wife gave me a Stihl backpack leaf blower. Gas powered. You can’t get the same power with electric and you don’t have to worry about the cord. I finish the job in 2 hours now, by myself. And the entire neighborhood is doing their leaves with gas-powered leaf blowers.
Many years ago had a neighbor who mowed his lawn at 630 on Saturday morning. Right next to my bedroom window. Asked him to stop so he then went to 6 am. I went and bought some rough cut oak and set up my planer outside right next to his living room where his TV stood. Waited till he started watching a show and started my planer...it was loud. Did that every evening till I ran out of oak probably 10 days worth. He quit mowing his lawn.
Good one.
Rakes DO emit CO2.....or will I be outlawed as well?
What dumb ass she is..
lol
You want to come over and rake my yard for the next 7 years?
I’ll give you the $120.00 cost of my leaf blower to do it.
I figure 7 years is the life span of my investment.
How about banning that practice instead of the tool?
This. Leaf blowers are acceptable if they are used to create a pile of leaves that is then picked up and bagged. Too many folks use them to blow leaves out of their yards into the street or into their neighbor's yard. Pick the shit up.
:)
Damn, you need a podcast.
Life in the US is so grand having all our problems solved so we’re down to regulating leaf blowers.
landscape companies seek new venue
ever try raking fall leaves at a large wooded industrial park or a large wooded condominium complex?
thought not
gas powered commercial mowers
Why do they hate illegal immigrants?
And all the landscaping businesses for the elite....?
