House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes, R-Calif., fired back at Democrats who criticized Attorney General William Barr for his role in former Trump associate Roger Stone's sentencing and defended the president's use of Twitter after he used the platform to comment about the ongoing criminal case.
"Whats happening here with Barr, I think people need to understand that hes cleaning up the mess from not only the Obama administration, but also the mess that was left with the whole Russia-gate fiasco," Nunes told "Fox & Friends Weekend," saying taxpayers paid tens of millions of dollars to fund then-Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team "that went chasing and trying to put us into a status of a permanent coup against the president of the United States."
Nunes' comments came days after Barr himself publicly swiped at Trump, declaring Thursday that the presidents tweets about Justice Department prosecutors and open cases "make it impossible for me to do my job."
Barr made the comment during an interview with ABC News just days after his Justice Department overruled its own prosecutors who had recommended in a court filing that Stone be sentenced to as many as nine years in prison and took the extraordinary step of lowering the amount of prison time it would seek. The department didn't offer an amended number.
Barr himself has been under fire for the reversal. Still, it was a highly unusual move for a member of President Trump's Cabinet to criticize the president.
"I think what the attorney general said was very clear, that the president should be careful making comments about criminal investigations. One should not see that as anything other than but what it is," Nunez said, adding that Barr "didnt say to stop tweeting, because the fact of the matter is

i find it funny that barr claims he doesn’t give a poop what the left say about him, but then turns around and claims that Trump’s tweets ‘make it hard for him to do his job’- Really? I thought Barr didn’t care what the left said? Which is it bill?
He does!!!
“...[Democrats criticized] Attorney General William Barr for his role in former Trump associate Roger Stone’s sentencing..”
Funny how the Democrats are not criticizing Barr for declining to prosecute McCabe for lying 5 times.
When all government ...in little as in great things... shall be drawn to Washington as the center of all power; it will render powerless the checks provided of one government on another, and will become as venal and oppressive as the government from which we separated." -- Thomas Jefferson, 1821
Nunes is right. The president has to defend himself from the attacks of the Marxists and their media minions because a lot of so-called conservative publications and voices won’t.
Barr was wrong. His actions are confusing and give the impression of someone who can’t make up his mind on what is a crime (McCabe’s lying) and what is not (the whole treatment of Roger Stone, esp. the Gestapo/KGB raid on his house in the early morning).
Barr is smart but he’s a lousy communicator when something needs a real clear response. McCabe was a dirty cop - corrupt to the core and not very sound of mine (like Clapper or Brennan, two other corrupt fools).
If no one else leads, verbally or physically, then the President has a duty to America to step in and do it.
One tweet was loud and clear to America...”Gentlemen Start Your Engines”...The left silly puddy game is over.
President Trump knows exactly what he’s doing.
Neither. By saying Trump is bugging him the left had to sympathize with him
Which means the left had to go on TV and DEFEND Barr
Trump is playing 4D Chess
If he was doing his job there wouldnt be tweets.
I believe Barr talked with the President about his tweets. The bad guys can claim in court they can’t get a fair trial because the President of the United States has tainted any potential jurors. I think Barr got so frustrated with the bad guys getting this potential ammunition he went on TV to put pressure on the President to stop commenting on criminal cases. We will know by July if Barr is real or just another Holder clone protecting the RAT state.
But then again....who would have known about the jury foreman and her Dem connection...including running for office.
Which is it bill?
By publicly criticizing the Presidents tweets, Barr creates distance, making it far more difficult for the Democrats to convince the public that Barr is a yes man.
In addition, it is a distraction for the fake news media, which is always looking for a story that makes the president look weak and out of control - an administration in chaos, fraught with infighting and rebellion.
Meanwhile, the Democrats want to depict Trump as a ruthless, power hungry dictator, who does not tolerate dissent or disagreement from his cabinet officials, and along comes Barr dissenting and disagreeing - if anything - making the President look weak and powerless.
Haha! Smart move. Two opposite anti-Trump narratives that cancel each other out - they dont know which narrative to push...
In reality, the Presidents tweets have no affect on Barr, one way or another.
There has been 3.5 yrs and more to figure out why PDJT tweets...no one who opposes his tweeting is ignorant nor stupid, just wrong and part of the swamp and opposition. There are even a few Freepers who want PDJT to stop.
If he stops, then they win.
Good point
If Trump wins fire Wray and make Nunes FBI head.
To all the Barr supporters please consider this.
If you were running a multi-million dollar business and Barr was your chief of security how long would you keep him? Given all the attacks and all the leaks on your position during the past year plus all the money spent on defending your job, would you continue to employ Mr. Barr?
The problem isnt the left, it is judges, and his prosecutors.
President Trump knows exactly what hes doing.
He does!
