Bloomberg surpasses $400M in ad spending for 2020 race

Michael Bloomberg has spent more than double his nearest Democratic presidential primary rival on campaign ads.

Data from political ad tracker Kantar/CMAG shows the former New York City mayor spent roughly $417.7 million as of Sunday morning, which according to CNN's David Wright, also includes futures reservations.

The amount is 10 times as much as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who leads the delegate race in the contest, have each spent. Here's a look at ad spending through today (including future reservations:

Bloomberg: $417.7 million Steyer: $193.6 million Sanders: $41.8 million Buttigieg: $40 millon Warren: $21.4 million Biden: $12.3 million Klobuchar: $10.6 million Gabbard $5.4 million

The closest candidate to Bloomberg in spending is Tom Steyer, a fellow billionaire who is self-funding his campaign, who poured about $193.6 million into ads.

As Bloomberg's spending has increased, so has his poll numbers. The former mayor has nearly doubled his support from 8% to 14% in just two weeks according to, RealClearPolitics national average.

Bloomberg's rise has coincided with Joe Biden's stumbling in early state contests. The former vice president's support has dropped nearly 10% in the last two weeks.

Bloomberg has faced criticism from his fellow contenders for buying ads instead of trying to qualify for debates. Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar said the billionaire's strategy is "to hide behind airwaves."

Bloomberg’s money is not tied up property like Trump’s money. It is much easier for Bloomberg to spend 2 billion.

He will spread his money to every possible congressional district. Just think how much he can provide for “walking around” money. It is untested territory.

Thanks Zhang and we had an old Dodge Dart. I think part of Trump did not want to be President, did not think he could win, So he “invested” only 66 million in his Presidential win.

But now that he is in he is a super scrapper at age 72

Even 6 months ago I saw Bloomie’s Billions as a major threat to Trump. Money talks and BS walks.

I’ve noticed the Doomberg ads have penetrated to the smalltime oldies radio stations. They are pathetic things that induce a snicker each time they’re played.

I wonder if anyone is dumb enough to believe the crap he’s slinging?!

I wonder if Bloomberg’s game is just to take out Trump and by running as a “candidate”, he can donan end around the campaign finance laws. He only seems interested in attacking Trump, not his current opponents.

Yes, he has the money. I just don’t think he would spend this much of his own money. It is a lot of money even for him. He is so pro-China. I suspect they are financing part or most of this. Just my opinion.

Well,Doomberg should understand that ILLary outspent DJT by a factor of about 2 to 1 in ‘16.I can't think of a single state that the President carried in ‘16 that would be swayed by $3 billion of Doomberg ads.

“The networks have got to love this!”

totally ... that’s why their “news” divisions are so excited about his putative “prospects” ... voters apparently not so much given most poll results ...

Thanks! A great way to look at Mini Mike spending all that money.

Another win for Trump. He is keeping the economy rolling with dem money to the tune of $742,800,000.00, and still rising.

Mini Mike may be crushing his fellow rats, it is doubtful if he has gotten any Trump votes with his tons of money pouring into the states with dem primaries.

Get Question!

Please keep asking it!

Mr Bloomberg, that half billion $$$ could have helped so many many people get off the streets and find jobs in NYC and elsewhere. People, you claim to care about ( at least in your ads, if not in your secret tape recordings). Just saying!

Hill will not have to work to become president if Mini Mike becomes POTUS with her as Veep. She will just have to make one phone call after he becomes president.

Exactly.

And he thinks 95 year olds with cancer should be allowed to die without any medical intervention.

That will be just one of many “hard choices” in medical care that will be in force should Bloomin’ and his gang of bought politicians take full power.

Sadly, yes. Heck, many are unaware that Buttgiggity is a faggot.

I hope his ads are considered annoying spam soon.
