Democrats are issuing dire warnings that the rule of law is under attack by President Trump after the Department of Justice (DOJ) overruled career prosecutors to seek a lighter sentence for longtime Trump aide Roger Stone.
The move incensed Democratic lawmakers and raised new questions about potential White House interference at the agency.
Left to his own devices, President Trump would turn America into a banana republic, where the dictator can do whatever he wants and the Justice Department is the presidents law firm not a defender of the rule of law, Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday on the Senate floor in response.
In an early Tuesday morning tweet, Trump had expressed outrage over the DOJs initial recommendation that Stone serve between seven and nine years in prison. After the department asked the judge to impose a sentence that was "far less," Trump on Wednesday publicly congratulated Attorney General William Barr for taking charge of the case.
In apparent protest, the entire four-person prosecutorial team on Stones case resigned.
Barr on Thursday denied White House had influenced the DOJ decision, telling ABC News that Trump "has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case, and in a rare break with the president, adding that he should "stop the tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases."

Translation: Democrats fear rule of law use under Trump.
That’s why the Dems continually break the law.
Fake Russia and fake Ukraine
The Democrats mental illness on full display
Democrats condone and support illegal activity.
Gosh, people might think Barr is Trumps wing man or something.....
Don’t blame this on President Trump. Obonzo and his boy Holder started this collapse. They both need to be in jail. Especially that flamer, Holder.
Such pearl-clutching among the criminal class.
so long as they end up clutching something else in the future during processing. LOL
“...Democrats fear rule of law crumbling under Trump...”
Well, “THEIR” laws and subversion, anyway.
He’s fixing what OBunghole and his commie henchmen tried to f*** up (and almost did).
That’s funny coming from the people who put a Kenyan from Indonesia in the White House in direct violation of the Constitution.
Democrats lie.
What democrats fear is they’ll be held accountable to the same standards Republicans are held to...
8 years of Obama is DJ Trump’s Teflon shield.
And then there are always the dupe morons who believe this democrat crap
The DEMs live in a world where they can fool enough of the people enough of the time to negatively impact our lives.
The 4 corrupt prosecutors and the judge should be put through a rigged trial like they put Stone through. Let’s see how they like being on the other side of a corrupt trial. The biggest problem with the law is the double standard it has for democrats and republicans. Democrats can lie with impunity and commit treason while republicans can’t get away with anything.
Tired of the DOJ covering for corrupt Dems while crucifying Republicans.
Drain the swamp!!
What they mean by the rule of law is the two tiered justice system that allows Democrat bureaucrats to break the law with impunity, but descends like the fist of God on the rest of us
The only thing crumbling, thank G-d, is the dummocraps’ Alternate Universe version of “law”. We are now enjoying the gradual return to actual law and the prosperity which accompanies that.
Project project project.
The only “law” that Democrats want to protect is the specious case law they have built up around court rulings that were originally to be very narrowly applied, but have broadened into verities of political dogma, applied inappropriately and with no regard to conflict with other existing law.
And of course there is the continuing threat to Sharia law.
