As Democrats battle in early states, Bloomberg quietly lays groundwork among party leaders

Subtitle: The former New York mayor's campaign has been reaching out to key party influencers, including some who support his rivals.

WASHINGTON -- Michael Bloomberg may be absent from the early-state ballots, but behind the scenes, he has been using his wealth and influence to undermine the rest of the Democratic field.

As the other candidates for the Democratic presidential nomination trudged through Iowa and New Hampshire in the early weeks of this year, Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, has doubled his planned spending on television ads, expanded his staff several times over and started aggressively courting key party influencers - including many who have endorsed top rivals like former Vice President Joe Biden.

Bloomberg could escalate his efforts even more directly after the results of Tuesday's New Hampshire primary are in and as candidates, party insiders and voters begin to reassess the state of the race.

On Friday, in a townhouse across from the Capitol complex in Washington, top Bloomberg campaign advisers huddled with about 20 House members to deliver a briefing on their strategy to win the nomination and defeat President Donald Trump.

The cross section of lawmakers, representing the Blue Dog Coalition, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus, included both members who have endorsed other candidates and members who remain undecided, according to a person familiar with Bloomberg's operation.

The strategy is to keep potential allies informed of Bloomberg's plans in case they decide to sign on later, the person said.

The bags full of money are heading toward the democrat delegates as we speak. The question is, how are the Bernie folks going to react when a Wall Street crony capitalist swoops in and buys the nomination right out from under Bernie?

His game is to let Mayor Pete and Bernie split enough of the votes...so that come convention time....no clear winner occurs on the first round, and Bloomberg wins via the second round. I’ll even go and predict right now...Mayor Pete is the VP choice for Bloomberg.

If you don't appeal to the voters, appeal to the puppet masters. Besides, elections are much too important to leave to the wishes to the subjects voters.

This is great. The party that rails against “corporate interests” “Billionaires buying influence” has it about ready to explode and upend the whole primary.

Pass the popcorn.

Bloomberg is unlikable to those who matter, the voters. The media spot sellers and perhaps party hacks might use him, but that’s about all.

Sounds like the Bloomboorg is conspiring with the DNC and is going to step in at a brokered convention.

Which is in the planning now.

I think.

In other words...

Bloomberg is letting Bernie and all have delegates..

While Bloomberg is buying all of the super delegates. And the party machine to anoint him. And also allowing him to win without actually campaigning or answering unapproved, unscripted, actual voters questions.

Bernie folks, for the most part, will be totally disillusioned and stay home in droves.

If Bernie lies down and takes it he will totally disillusion his supporters.

My guess is Bernie goes down swinging. It is his turn.

Doomberg hates Blacks(SPREAD THE WORD) and he should be everything Bernie and his followers hate.

If Bloomberg gets the nomination, the Bernie bots will burn the DNC down to the ground. They will stay home and start/join a third party.

The DNC will be crippled for a generation.

Re: “ “I have never seen someone lock in so much talent this quickly. People will try to say that it is money, but I would actually venture to say that he had the ‘Mayor University,’” Kumar said, referring to the mayoral training program Bloomberg sponsors at Harvard University. “He has their trust in a way, because he has worked with them closely.”

So do not think any of this has anything at all to do with Bloomberg’s billions. He is just so good at getting people to “trust” him. Trust him for what? To control their lives?

Firstly, they will riot if that happens.

Secondly, I could easily see them splitting off from the Democrat Party since it will be so obviously corrupt.

Bloomberg has no chance even if he corruptly gets the nomination.

Bloomy is the one to watch. All the others will fall by the wayside, but little rich mike will be a force to be contended with.

To win, he will have to prove he will be better for the country than Trump, and that’s unlikely.

Yet to be seen if Bloomberg, despite enormous expenditures, will get traction with Democratic primary voters. They are by nature very left. Also if Bernie arrive at the convention with the most delegates, but not enough to win on the first ballot, there will literally be riots if he is somehow denied the nomination.

Actually Bloomberg’s candidacy will end up helping Trump. As Bloomberg gets desperate his media buys will be directed against Sanders in creative and demeaning ways. Many people beyond Democratic primary voters watch those commercials.

IMHO in the end it will be Sanders/Amy v Trump/Pence. The nation will be at risk in this election.

But I say Bloomberg will not get the nomination. The recordings of his racism and support for stop & frisk have sealed his fate beyond his billionaire status.

Yep, Doomberg is buying his way in, as usual. I would guess the DNC (and their goons in the media) are so desperate to get rid of Comrade Bernie, they will take anyone, almost. A good bet.
