Four prosecutors from the Justice Department (DOJ) have withdrawn from their roles in the Roger Stone case, following the departments decision to reduce the amount of prison time they are recommending for the Trump associate.
Prosecutors Aaron Zelinsky (pdf), Jonathan Kravis (pdf), Adam C. Jed (pdf), and Michael Marando (pdf) filed notices withdrawing from the case on Feb. 11. The move follows the departments decision to override the sentencing recommendation of seven to nine years made by the federal prosecutors.
Along with withdrawing from the case, Kravis also will resign from his position as an assistant U.S. attorney. Zelinsky and Jed previously worked on former special counsel Robert Muellers Russia investigation.
Stone, 67, is one of several of President Donald Trumps associates who faced charges as a result of Muellers investigation into alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. He was convicted in November 2019 on all seven counts he was charged with, including obstruction, witness tampering, and making false statements to Congress.
The charges were related to allegations that Stone had made false statements to the House Intelligence Committee during its probe of alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election and attempted to persuade a witness to give false testimony and withhold pertinent information from investigators.
On Feb. 10, the department filed a sentencing memorandum that recommended that the court consider a sentence of 87 to 108 months, or seven to nine years (pdf). The prosecutors said the lengthy sentence would send the message that tampering with a witness, obstructing justice, and lying in the context of a congressional investigation on matters of critical national importance are not crimes to be taken lightly.

BEST ELECTION EVER!!!!!!
Every case those Mueller prosecutors tried need to be closely reviewed. I betcha they are full of false statements and improper charges.
Now withdraw their jobs from them.
Something is afoot. Strange happenings with Stone and Flynn.
It’s amazing to me what fervor these guys had going after Stone. All the people in the FBI that were on the record having committed crimes to the level of conspiring against the President of the United States, and nothing. This guy fibs a few times, and my gosh, he was public enemy numero uno.
Every one of those bastards should be disbarred
Less men were sent in to kill Osama bin Laden than were sent to arrest Roger Stone. The prosecuters and the Judge need to all swing!
Tough to believe that her fascist, extremist left-wing, 0bama honor will not send him up the river.
The Demedia is portraying this as the prosecutors resigning in protest of the reduction in a just recommended sentence due to interference from Barr/Trump when actually they got caught exceeding sentencing guidelines and chose to resign when their political excess was learned.
Dis Adam Schitt write the script for these prosecutors to follow?
They overcharge
They overreach with the sentence
They lied to the DOJ
And, when called out for it by Barr, which they knew would happen, they all make BIG news by publicly resigning
This just reeks of a plan to find another way to harass Barr (and Trump) as they get closer to the Ukraine Scandal
Schitt probably already has Articles of Impeachment written up for Barr, waiting to fill in the blanks
Would like to see comparatives for others convicted of similar convictions.
There’s a bit of a chill in the air these days. I think the storm is almost here.
C'Mon boys! Old-time hockey! (Wimps)
Both got themselves in trouble by talking to the investigators. They should have taken the 5th, not said a single word.
Well, bye!
That was the lesson from Martha Stewart, for one.
We would like to ask you some questions.
Not without my attorney present.
This feels like the part in the movie where a few hundred heavily armed soldiers start jogging into place outside the bad guys headquarters, while they’re sitting inside unaware and planning their next move.
