Fighting the new coronavirus has been a battle against the unknown for doctors.
...
Now, an account by medics on the front line of this epidemic, at the Jinyintan Hospital, in Wuhan, is starting to provide answers.
A detailed analysis of the first 99 patients treated there has been published in the Lancet medical journal.
Lung assault All of the 99 patients taken to the hospital had pneumonia - their lungs were inflamed and the tiny sacs where oxygen moves from the air to the blood were filling with water.
Other symptoms were:
82 had fever 81 had a cough 31 had shortness of breath 11 had muscle ache nine had confusion eight had a headache five had a sore throat

Meanwhile last year flu killed over 20,000 Americans - don’t know about the rest of the world.
and 647,000 Americans die from heart disease each year. Not sure what your point is?
And half of America has diabeetus.
47 of 49 associated with market. Only 2 visited and the rest worked there.
If these wet markets are commonplace in China then you’d think the majority of people would patronize them given they are cheaper than a typical grocery store there.
The 47 number of affected that actually worked there is something to ponder outside of the accidental release from the lab question.
half the country votes Demon.
where is that number from?
it seems like a lot out of a population of 300 million.
Considering the air and water quality in China which has for years already affected most of China’s city peoples it’s not surprising they would be acceptable to any resperatory virus or illness.
I was thinking about that too. Not sure how bad the air quality is in Wuhan, but there are studies that show chronic smoking and vaping make you much more susceptible to the flu.
Living in a polluted city has got to have the same effect.
Living in an extremely densely populated city is going to dramatically increase the R factor.

They’re making a big deal out of this coronavirus where 135 people have died world wide. That’s the point I’m making.
Have you look at the rest of the numbers and trends, or just how many have died so far?
It doesn’t matter - it’s not a pandemic like the Spanish flue or SARS or Ebola or the common flu that’s going around now killing people - 4800 and counting. And you point is?
My point is, you should look at the data before commenting. It is growing much faster than SARS
Studies showed after the 1918 Flu that the town drunks all across America escaped relatively unharmed. The suppressed immune system worked in their favor.
I’m not even remotely worried!
This settles it, Im not drinking anymore Corona.
Bring Out Your Dead
Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
Lung assault All of the 99 patients taken to the hospital had pneumonia...
...
I wonder if the pneumonia was due to secondary bacterial infections.

Good question.
I would like to know the answer to that.
